I don't know if I'm weird, or if this is part of a cognitive function and others do this too. But I figured this is the best place to ask. [emoji16]

What cognitive function (if any) am I experiencing?

I can pretty much always tell how people are feeling or thinking. Whether they're frustrated, or sad, disapproving, or just being fake, I can tell. It is usually by watching facial expressions, or tone of voice, or body language, or a change in body energy. Honestly most of the time I don't actually understand how I know the things I know.
I work with middle school girls, and they have astonishingly asked if I'm psychic (jokingly for the most part) because I can always tell when something is up, and/or what they're thinking in regards to a situation. Because of this, I know the motives behind what people are telling me, and can usually tell how they want me to respond to them. From there I can decide if I want to just tell them what they want to hear, or actually give them my opinion, depending on the reaction that I want out of them.
Because of this, I make friends with everyone. Everyone feels like I understand them perfectly and everyone feels like they can tell me/ask me advice on everything.
I rarely have conflict with anyone because I just understand how people work and how I need to engage with them. I often play the mediator role between those around me who are in conflict by explaining the thoughts of each and thus resolving the situation. Sometimes I almost feel like I'm cheating in life because I just understand the why behind everything that is happening around me. I never just react to a situation because there are too many factors playing into my actions. I almost feel like I can never be the real me because of it.

So is this one of my cognitive functions? Any insight is greatly appreciated. I basically fried my brain trying to put this into words. Someone just tell me that I'm not weird, please. [emoji12] Thanks in advance!

Ding ding Ni-Fe you're an INFJ welcome to the club.

by cleverly showing ignorance you can convince others that it was meant to be natural.

it's a common formula here.

Too well scripted. :coffee:

Aren't INFJs supposed to be emotional? I'm not emotional at all. Actually been accused of being insensitive because though I can see what you're feeling and why, I don't empathize or feel it with you. And it's not like I'm trying to deceive people... [emoji848][emoji848]

Actually no, a healthy Fe user controls their emotions. Hence why Fi types may complain that a person who uses Fe may be fake. They're not really emotional if anything. It's when their unhealthy and need help, usually their hidden Fi tends to come out being the "critical parent"

As of recent, people who've been quiet to me in the past are now dumping their likes and interests and wanting to get to know me, it's all too interesting. I believe I wasn't too much of a healthy 5 and now I'm getting better allowing others to enjoy my better self.

I can relate to this a lot. I would say it's definitely a combination of your preferred functions, without doubt. Ne doms are said to be good at sniffing out liars or those that are up to no good. I have a natural sense of this too, but if I let my Fi get in the way to tell myself otherwise, I will then go back to using Ne to rationalize my way to believing they're good people, even if my gut tells me they're most definitely not! Got off tangent there. Basically, you're Ne picks up the subtle differences and cues and makes those connections, but it's your Se that is giving the hard defined physical data such as body language, facial expression, etc. (My ENTJ brother reads people well in very much the same way you describe) and you're Fe allows you to proceed whether to reciprocate or not. Being a tert Fe user, you are certainly aware of the environment, but you also aren't too compelled to do anything about it. Kind of like my relationship with Te. It's there, it's strong enough, but over anything, my Fi tramples it left and right. It's mostly your Ne/Ti combo picking out the oddities, with Se gathering the data.

You seem to be recieving info from your Ne because you pick up several cues at once. I do the same myself. And then you put it in your Ti in use to analysis what you recieve and give people feedback.

I will go along with Fe, but lack enough information Fe is about finding meaning in the external world. Fe users tend to know the emotional states of all those around them without really looking for it. FPs can act similarly but by looking inside themselves.

I need more info to guide your typing more, but NFJs can do what you describe. I know many SFJs are very atuned to the emotions of others, but lacking Ni likely changes the experience.

ENTPs can also be pretty good at this, but their Ti often obstructs them.

Intuitive with some social instinct in there perhaps? Also, knowing motives sounds like Fe.

Yes, all of this completely makes sense. Thank you!

No probs! Sometimes it actually makes things easier to understand when you think of the functions in terms of their relational dynamics rather than trying to pinpoint exact instances where this function or that can be identified :newwink:

I'd be happy to give more info, just not sure what you'd need to know. I often say that everyone could understand people as I do if they'd only take the time to watch them...

Se can give a great understanding of others. There are a lot of microexpressions that some people are really can read very well. So STPs and NFJs, using Se and Fe, can really be amazing at reading folks.

But my ENFP friend is amazing at reading people, too. She just does it differently than me, or her ex husband, who is also an ENFJ.

I am going to ask a few questions, to help me give you better advice.

How do you get when you are really stressed out? What helps you to get back to normal?

When you try to figure things out, do you tend to get one, clear vision or do you just see lots of different ideas and directions, making it hard to focus?

Do you talk fast or slow? Do you react slowly or quickly? Do you interact with your surroundings or do you observe them?

How organized are you? Do you regularly run late or are you habitually early?

I rarely get stressed out. I've never been one to let things bother me. When I do get stressed out, I let everyone around me know what they are doing wrong. All I usually need to do is vent/ rant/ voice my frustrations, then I'm good to go.

When I'm trying to figure something out, I need paper and pen. I have so many options and ideas in my head that I have to lasso them all and put them onto paper so that I can organize them and figure it out from there. Once I have solidified my options, I need a sounding board or someone to throw around my options with. Usually they don't need to say anything, I just need to talk it out for a few minutes.

I talk quickly if I know what I'm talking about, otherwise I'm just going to listen and absorb the new information. I react quickly and calmly to emergencies. I'm the one my family relies on when someone has an injury that has anything to do with blood. I don't ever panic, I fix it.

When I was younger, I only observed my surroundings. It took me years of watching and analyzing to get to the point to where I knew I could interact with my surroundings. Now that I'm older, I observe as I interact. I usually regret interacting before I observe because it usually leads to me assuming or saying something that wasn't true. I have been called hasty and stereotypical when I don't observe first.

I'm naturally a messy person, so I became a minimalist to get rid of that problem. Now I don't have to be organized because I don't have much that needs organizing. I work best with deadlines, my school assignments are always turned in early, but I'm usually late to arrive to scheduled events. I don't get there on time, but I get there when I need to be there. (I.e., I teach bible study and it's supposed to start at 5pm, but most girls arrive 8-10 minutes late, so in order to not waste my time, I also arrive 8-10 minutes late..)

Interesting. Very interesting........

Ok, I am now leaning to ENFP...... you show Ne, not Ni....and the hyper critical idea looks like it could be a sign of tert or inferior Te. NFJs either get really self-critical (ENFJs) or indulgent (INFJs).....

And as I wrote before ENFPs can be amazing at people reading....... they just don't use Se and Fe. Ne plus Fi can do it very well.

Have you thought about ENFP before?

I've never considered ENFP because I have several ENFP friends and I'm nothing like them.. I thrive off of debating and arguing and ENFPs always get offended by it. Life without logic is chaotic..

Are you sure they are ENFPs? ENFPs have tert Te and that is the play/rest position.

Many purported ENFPs are actually mistyped ESFJs. Here is a thread on it http://www.typologycentral.com/forums/the-nf-idyllic-enfp-infp-enfj-infj-/80909-esfj-e2-peoples-enfp.html

The real ENFPs I know love debating and arguing and are pretty good at it. They can make very reasoned arguments. If an ENFP is in a debate, they are having fun times, mostly.....

I'm pretty positive that they're ENFP. I think they're just a little wounded and the things we debate about are often touchy topics like core values and the reasoning behind them, etc. maybe if we debated more superficial/ not so personal things they would enjoy it.. [emoji848]
