Thing is that a bribe is not fair to others involved. If someone offers you a bribe...open it up, create an auction for the highest bidder. Make it public and offer to everyone. At that point it's just selling a service to the highest bidder, right...lol

I know I wouldn't if they tried to bribe me, because they'd be questioning my integrity. If money wasn't involved, say a small favor for a friend, I still probably couldn't if I thought it would be disruptive or offensive to someone else. I wouldn't call a friend out for doing a chat and cut, for instance, but I'd have to agree it was unfair if a third party brought it up.

I am already being bribed to show up, so it depends how much of an extension on that it is.

Let's say you work an office job and a client subtly offers you bribe to do something that won't harm anyone but is either illegal or unethical, e.g. their case cutting the line to the front when it would normally have to wait much longer, or giving them vague but essential info on how their case is progressing, which you are not allowed to do.

In this specific case, you know with 100% certainty that no one knows about the client offering you bribe, you know that you won't be caught and reported, and even if you were, you did it in such a way that no one would be able to prove you anything. You're not pressured into accepting the bribe, the decision is entirely yours.

Would you accept the bribe and do what the client asks of you?

If you think that bribes are wrong, are there any circumstances whatsoever in which you would accept bribe without being pressured into it?
If it doesn't hurt anybody and there is little to no chance I will be caught, sure.

Maybe. I don't see anything inherently wrong with it. If it's not hurting anyone, what's the problem? This seems similar to the mentality of "socialism/capitalism is always bad" or "religions other than mine are evil" or "lying is always wrong," taking what we've been taught and applying it to every scenario without question. Also known as the infamous stage 4 morality.

It depends on what would be asked of me. I have some standards, even as part used car salesman.

I wouldn't accept the bribe because this kind of behavior goes against my inner values, noone gets a preferential treatment.

I can put myself in the place of all the other clients or my co-workers, I wouldn't appreciate someone to do it hence I won't do it myself.

However of course if I really need the money and it's a vital need such as paying for a necessary medical operation or something and that it happens, well I won't hesitate, it's all a matter of priorities really.

Nope. Not at work and not in any other capacity. Ever.

There's no honorific societies anymore but I'm fucking sure my own personal honour is not for sale.

Bribes are almost always a trap. I guarantee you it's law enforcement or a person in league with law enforcement trying to either further their career or get away with a lighter sentence in exchange for flipping on someone else.

That, and even if it isn't, 20 years can go by and you'll still be just as fucked when it comes to light

It's never going to be a worthwhile choice. So, you obviously don't have the moral high ground and you don't have the logical high ground. Easy choice for me.

Work no, i dont feel like getting fired for something stupid. Outside of work, i will take a bribe if i was going in that direction even without it. Its a win-win situation...for me. I win and then win again, they lose and then lose again. I dont like bribes if you can tell...lol

a way most people get 'bribed' though it's not really a bribe in the seedy envelope under the counter sense is via non-disclosed double commission/fee
ie: you send business someone's way and they pay you for the service, but your customer also pays you for the same thing.

Whether I consider it ethical depends on the context: ie - if 'you' were going to choose a business anyway you would be smart to get a 'finder's fee' from them, as they would have spent on sales otherwise.
But I don't really respect people who would bring a customer to someone else based on how big a commission they get - that's not a virtuous circle and unethical if the customer was paying for 'your' expertise in connecting them with the right service provider.

I saw that quite a bit in sales peoples in digital agencies.

So I guess it's similar to your example of 'yes but only if I was going to do it anyway'.

Such people are destroying my country/society since my birth and for me this is a sure no. Bribes here are pretty much a national sport.

If it were not illegal I would perhaps even go violent in order that I can surrender him/her to the cops, luckly with some evidences in pockets. (enough is enough)

Yes, but if I were bribed to do something I don't want to do, I'd take it and not do it.

No.

Corruption is the source of many evils, and it can get out of hand very quickly. I condemn it. I won't do something I condemn, no matter my chances of getting caught.

Some members of my family have been hinting at a possible political career, and suggesting nepotism. Very disappointing.

They asked for my support. I already said that they won't have it.

Such people are destroying my country/society since my birth and for me this is a sure no. Bribes here are pretty much a national sport.

Nope, small ex communist country known as Croatia world wide.

The thing is that bribes may not make you that much of advantage how much they put someone else at disadvantage completely unfairly. Therefore just by being fair you get to be the "second class", what I find completely unaccaptable. Especially since I am pretty sure that I was a victim a number of times. I find it impossible that 2/3 of a class are A class students and half of them even straight A. On the other hand I could get an E for 3/4 correct verbal exam, because someone has to suck in the whole group.

(hmm, suddenly the locker room incident got a whole new flavour to it)
