I always considered patience as a function of the rate of change in respect to one's mind coupled with the ability to be content with the flow of society (adapt accordingly).
That being said, it seems that those with very active minds tend to be impatient because they have adapted to their rapid thought process, which makes it more difficult to become accustomed to a larger gap in processing speed. Also, as our society has progressively become more fast paced, we must adapt to that process, which causes a generational gap in respect to processing...Thus, it would make sense that if we were emplaced within a slower paced society, impatience would tend to follow.

I can be very patient when laying the groundwork for future plans.

I can be very impatient when my time is being wasted by others to no purpose, due to their own inefficiency or lack of planning.

It all comes down to return on investment, or cost/benefit, as time is just another resource.

I C...So, as an INTJ, you are likely more adept at projecting toward a goal with ease (Ni coupled with Te)....Thus, you have been accustomed to the rate at which your destination is brought to reality....If someone slows down the process, then you may become impatient.

You could also make a conjecture that extroverted functions facilitate impatience due to rate of change....Ne and Se is very quick and spontaneous whereas Ni and Si is slow and delayed.

Totally depends on what I want to achieve. Patience or lacks of it are mostly just methods in my book.

pretty much this. I just don't like feeling like my time is being wasted

I use to be far less patient, until I learned the benefit of carefully laid /contingency planning. This only applies to internal patience. I don't have the same outlook to other people, in fact, I would almost always rather do something myself and avoid possible time wasting, mistakes that need to go back and be corrected and so on. I don't stand there and scream at people that they're a total fuck up, nothing like that, even when I really want to. I just ask them to move and do it myself.

Patient. Impatient. Time doesn't care. Hurry up and wait. Take your time and rush. There are times when patience is correct. There are times when urgency takes precedence. The trick is telling the difference. If you're important they'll wait. If you're not it doesn't matter. Patience is such a fickle thing. It is the drawing back of the bow; carefully taking aim, without the action of releasing the arrow: what good was being patient to line up the perfect shot?

For the most part, I consider myself to be patient, too patient at times. I don't think my patience means my mind is not active. It's more that I realize the value patience and not pressuring the situation can have (being gentle can be a better way of pleasing everyone with respect, trust being established, and no conflict), and because my getting impatient may negatively impact the situation, or at least, not result in what I wanted anyway.

It really is impossible to answer. Basically like many people have already said, sometimes I can be too patient/give things too much time; sometimes I'm very patient when I know, for example, that nothing can be done about the situation and so there's no point getting worked up about it. Other times, I'm incredibly impatient (this is usually when I am 100% READY to get something done or do something and/or excited about doing something, and feel I am being held back or I'm not able to start for whatever reason, or when I'm dependent on someone else who's not doing their part/job/whatever).

hmm...I wonder if you take a subset of the population (early on in life) and expose them to some reward given that an x amount of time is needed to wait. Then continue this process by increasing the waiting time by some interval....By conditioning in this manner, tolerance will inevitably increase over time because each new scenario after the process will likely be lesser than the maximum. Of course, if one is continually immersed in their mind, then they should be theoretically more tolerant because the energy is diverted toward an inner reward rather than some external reward. The rate at which you attain external rewards should be proportional to tolerance level.

Hahahahaha. Impatience might be my most central and defining trait of all, not to say it is something to be necessarily proud of.

I think I'm too patient. I will wait years until I get what I want. That's just how I roll....

It's probably interwoven with my idealism to some extent, but instead of just fantasizing about what I want, I set out to fulfill some of those desires. Sometimes the only way is to keep persevering through it all, even when I keep falling back a million times.

^ Exactly 100% this. ^ I think that sometimes I get restless when I'm excited about something good that will happen in the near future or maybe I'm meeting up with someone I've been wanting to spend time with. But it's a rather happy feeling so I don't consider it impatience. I tend to be tolerant of others' mistakes, and although I get frustrated with myself I always take my time when doing things. I absolutely hatefeeling rushed, I believe things don't happen overnight and as long as I'm doing *something* to make progress, I think it's definitely okay to move slower. Now there is a difference in just utter stagnation, or intentionally wasting time/someone else's time, i dont really like that. And I admit I do have a tendency to imagine things more than actually do them, but I've been working on it.

I am fairly impatient on day to day matters but on the flip side am quite persevering so that is patience in a way.

That’s a good point that applies to me too, although I do persevere at a highish speed that has put some strain on myself in the past. Think I would do fine to consider my age and turn that down a notch.

I am very patient for all of life's troubles... that is of course if I am not late, and I am behind the wheel.

i think patience used to be one of my biggest struggles. but i think i've become pretty patient. i'd have to be cuz the amount of bullshit i have to repeatedly deal with is too goddamn high.
