I think I may cry tonight.
My grandmother just called us. She's 84 and was raised in Alabama. She said she never even dreamed she see a black person run as president of the United States (thanks for that one Shirley Chisolm and many others!), but she was just saying that even if Barack Obama doesn't win, she still never thought she even get to be on the edge of her seat waiting for this moment.
I know the historical significance doesn't resonate with a lot of people as strongly as it does for us, but I really can't believe we're down to this moment. When I voted today I saw people leaving the polls joyously smiling. It felt good. Whatever happens in the next few hours those smiles I saw and the call from my grandmother saying she'd never thought she'd see this is worth everything.
