Thanks, this helps a bit- though I think people are deceiving themselves if they feel like the source of their negative feelings for someone is rooted in conscious pragmatic super-ego calculations. Feelings and value judgements typically precede those, often laying the foundations for them completely. Of course I am only considering myself here and assuming universality- trying to think of someone I dislike for pragmatic reasons alone, or "objectively evil" reasons, and I'm drawing a blank. Everyone I've disliked has been rooted in petty self-reflective resentment. I thought Obama was a pragmatic disaster, yet I still "like" the guy to this day. Maybe it's just me. Hard to draw that line between the places where everyone is different, and everyone is the same, you know?

Oh, I wouldn't consider those pragmatic considerations. It's an emotional gut reaction to treasured institutions being under attack. Just like reacting to someon ekilling your mother has nothing to do with pragmatism.

According to Trump legal team Sidney Powell, the Dominion voting system is connected to communist Venezuelan dictator & has been used to steal elections & install dictatorships in South America..so they tried to do the same here!

Trump Lawyer Sidney Powell: CIA Director Haspel Should Be Fired For Ignoring Warnings About "Rotten" Dominion Voting System

This is madness.

Fact check: Dominion voting machines didn't delete votes from Trump, switch them to Biden

from the article:
"In fact, the security group — which includes the Department of Homeland Security's Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency and the National Association of State Election Directors — described the election as "the most secure in American history."

"Dominion calls the claim from Trump that its machines deleted 941,000 votes for him in Pennsylvania alone "impossible."

That's because Dominion only serves 14 counties in the state, which produced a total of 1.3 million votes — 52%, or 676,000, of which went to Trump. That only leaves 624,000 other votes, fewer than what Trump claims were switched."

Ahhhh, OK. I guess the idea of having feelings that deep about politics and government- which I consider an inheritly pragmatic process of deciding how and where collective resources should be spent on society- is a foreign concept to me. I'm not sure morality/religion has any place in politics, as I've always been a fan of the separation of church and state, but I suppose we all need to grow religion and morality where we can if we don't have alternative outlets for it. Human nature more or les mandates that.

We're going to end up with an Avignon presidency. I find this incredibly funny.

Don't think it will happen. Trump will go to Mar a Lago for golf in the coming weeks and simply never come back.

Do you suppose there will be pilgrimages to the God-Emperor at Mar-A-Lago, perhaps in hopes of receiving holy Corona SWAG?

Oh yeah. The right is already turning him into a martyr for their causes - why do you think he showed up to cheer on the PB and the rest of the of white nationalist/supremacist slime on Sat? He's now the head of their movement and Jr. and Kimberly Gargoyle are moving to consolidate the RNC.

I listened to this Sam Harris podcast with Tristan Harris (Welcome To The Cult Factory) - the guy from The Social Dilemma - and it actually provided a pretty good explanation for how social media enabled conspiracy theories to thrive to the point where such large swaths of people believe in them (gives theories a platform and enforces belief in them by intentionally stoking outrage, because outrage consequently makes people crave the social media more - but years of this unintentionally primed human autopilot to ingest a customized reality with striking conviction) and why/how it's only getting progressively more difficult to share reality in this country.

Here is a 5 minute synopsis from Bill Maher's show of what they delve into deeper on the podcast.

I didn't make it all the way through The Social Dilemma because the production of it was so grating, but I really liked the podcast. Tristan Harris has a podcast of his own; I haven't listened to any of them yet, but I intend to.

There are a lot of people in Trump's base that, I agree with others here who have said the same, seem to support him because he affirms their own shitty, bullying mentalities. They see him as 'strong' because their own conception of strength didn't have a chance to evolve into something that takes character into account. But there are also people with good character who support him, and this podcast helped make sense of that for me.

I'm not an American, but I'm looking at their election with both admitted mirth and bewilderment. The USA is imperfect. No country is perfect nor can be.
The USA is definitely a bastion of democracy, and this has made it look silly beyond measure. I also feel pity towards them, since they don't deserve to be the global laughing stock.

I'm ambivalent towards Trump - he has some good points. He is passionate, brash, and cares about his country.
But then I think he's racist - and his general persona is anti-presidential. Obama may have been too presidential in his mannerisms and speech, and maybe it's the contrast in this.

Biden though is more humble, but not uber-presidential like his once POTUS boss, Obama.
I'd prefer it, even as a non-American, if he won the election. Only as it would be less of a ruckus if he's in office than compared with Trump.

I don't think Trump cares about anyone but himself to be honest.

In case Trump's tweet about voter fraud in California comes up in which two people were convicted of creating 8,000 false ballots, It is worth noting that this was a mayoral election ballot for the City of Hawthorne, California and not the presidential election. Carlos Montenegro was running for mayor as a write-in candidate and faked the signatures he needed to get on the ballot as a write-in and then attempted to fake ballots, but got caught and convicted. The issue was this guy wanting to be mayor and attempting to cheat to achieve that goal. These were not votes for Biden, and I don't think these were even ballots containing the presidential candidates' names, but clarify if you find out they were.

Trump is actually grasping at straws, and the fact that it is this hard to find any significant fraud is helping to restore my faith in the voting system because I've always wondered. The problem is that even somewhat intelligent people are going to chalk this up to yet another true suspicion because he put it out there. It took me 30 minutes of googling to figure out what sort of ballots these were, why there was fraud, etc. Normal people don't have time to research every tweet. I only do because I'm stressed out and obsessed with these weird little details. I wouldn't expect most people to do that and they shouldn't have to do it. It is grossly irresponsible to dump these blatant falsehoods. Every time he tweets I feel like a bird just pooped on my head.

He's now been taking credit for the newest vaccine to be announced, trying to salvage the historical record of his successes.

The guy is shameless. I know I mentioned before how he tried to freeze fedgov raises the prior year, then when Congress pushed it through anyway, he wrote a glowing letter to fed employees taking credit for all the things we were getting. Like, I'd be embarrassed to take credit for things I did not invest in or even things I fought against, but he doesn't really seem to have an issue with that. I don't know how someone can either be that self-unaware or can consciously embrace that kind of duplicity.
