The sword of the Spirit was never meant to be wielded as a crushing hammer. The message of Christ was not go forth and conquer. It was to go out meet people where they are, serve their needs, minister to them with the love we would wish to be treated with. The light of the world was meant to be a beacon of hope that people could come to as they are to shelter through the inhospitable chaos and uncertainty of life form community with their neighbors and be not afraid of the arrow that flies by day nor the pestilence that stalks the night. It was never meant to be a spotlight hunting the dark for victims. The message from the creator to the creation was supposed to be that you are not alone, you have not been forgotten. You are loved in the midst of all the chaos and indifferent cruelty.

To those who wish to misuse faith, belief, and the name of gods to oppress others...You have forgotten the face of your Father. His name sticks in your mouth like the vomit upon which you shall choke in the end. The writing on the wall is clear:
MENE, MENE, TEKEL, UPHARSIN...God has numbered the days of your kingdom and brought it to an end; you have been weighed in the balances and found wanting... Repent and turn away from your wickedness; for your end draws near and the Lord God is faithful to remember, even when those who would claim to be his children prove faithless.

God, and every speck of discourse surrounding it, is exhausting to all humanity. Why can't I ever hear something like..

“God wrote me off. I didn’t write back”
"I'd like to thank Santa for giving me my first football"
"I'd like to thank the crossroads demon that I made a pact with..."

God, and every speck of discourse surrounding it, is exhausting to all humanity. Why can't I ever hear something like..

My issue is that I can't just be ruined and accustom myself to the fact that I am miserable. It seems like I am always getting teased by promising opportunities that always amount to nothing. Even if I deserve it, it's like a sick game that suggests an enjoyment of cruelty. Hope is a sick, sadistic thing; the Greeks were right in the story of Pandora's Box.

Regarding cynicism vs. hope:

I don't like hope because usually it ends up being wrong, and I never hear anyone tell me what to do with that beyond lame sour grape type things like "it wouldn't have been that great anyway" or "you would have hated it". Those kinds of statements always sound like bullshit to me.

Hope is also dangerous when its failure to bear fruit yields disillusionment, but this is more of a political observation.

However, I must concede the following:

Hope can be a motivating factor, and hope can breed confidence which can breed success.

Regarding going over past regrets:

Guilty as charged. Some of this is more symbolic than anything. For instance, if I'd been able to travel down certain roads I never got to take, this would mean that everything else in my life would be much better.
