Whenever I go to the movie theatre I just can't find enough movies about men. It makes me worried about what we value in this country. For example, I saw an advertisement for a movie about a panda.

Yeah, I mean when Luke was able to fly a complicated fighter craft through a narrow trench and guide the proton torpedoes into the exhaust port with zero force training, at least he had the help of Obi-Wan to make it more plausible.

Probably just some liberal propaganda fluff piece masqueraded as a serious documentary

Nah, it was much more blatant. It was about a panda learning kung fu. Probably created by militant liberals trying to rouse their army of children.

Oh god what next. It would make sense that they'd need an army of pandas. Liberals are all either sterile, impotent or gonna adopt chinese babies anyway. Good christian conservative americans have more babies statistically, so the libertards need to fill their ranks for the coming culture wars anyway they can.

I know man! Fucking feminists. The space wizard with an unexplained background is really good at stuff somehow, and it's obviously because she's female.

Why can't they make male characters like that?! For once I just want to watch a film where a male character is really good at stuff and it's never explained why.

Luke had been flying in narrow canyons shooting things at home. He sucked with the light saber even with Ben training him. He could not best Darth in Empire Strikes Back.

But the issue isn't that Rey is female. Turn her into a guy and its the same problem. It is JJ Abrams making kids into masters without training and experience.....like Star Trek....

It isn't feminism, but youthism.....

Yeah, and if this keeps up we're going to get loads of fantasy stories where the protagonist is special without any training. What is the world coming to...

Seriously though, Kylo Ren is clearly pretty young and untrained, hence the light-saber with crude exhausts on it, and in the future films he's going to get training in parallel to Rey. He's not at Darth Vader's level, and was pretty injured when fighting Rey. We don't know Rey's background, so she could have all sorts of reasons to be good at some stuff, force aside, and clearly has been in fights before.

I'm not sure what the motivation is to assume Rey has no training or skills, they could just as easily assume Rey must have experience in something because she's good at it, or that she's exceptionally strong in the force and perhaps has practiced force-use unaware. Assuming lack of experience could easily be motivated by misogyny, but meh I don't know.

Darth's experience by that point in his career was far greater than Ren's experience. You can use the "but Ren is so powerful he can freeze blaster bolts in mid-air" argument, but each main cast jedi in the films has exhibited their own unique abilities (also, we don't know he's the only person who can do that, but rather he is the first person to be seen doing it). Put Rey in Luke's place in the empire duel and there's no guarantee she wouldn't have been bested. There's also the fact Ren had suffered a shot to the abdomen from chewie's gun right before dueling Rey.

But yes, the issue isn't about her sex. Finn was able to hold his own against Ren briefly and he has zero experience in the force.

Also, flying in narrow canyons in what was essentially the equivalent of a futuristic 4 wheeler or dirtbike might not be adequate training for most pilots to be able to suddenly know the controls, maneuvering, and general feel of an advanced fighter ship. It was enough for Luke because of his force-sensitivity, not in spite of it.

Yes. It's never happened before. Ever.

Also, re: the issue of Luke sucking with a lightsabre when Rey seemed to pick it up right away...this may very well be explained in the next film. If she'd had some experience with learning that she'd either forgotten about or which had been willingly removed from her memory.

My guess is she's had more fighting experience than farm-boy Luke, much like Finn being able to put up a good fight, and/or is simply stronger in the force than Luke is.

Regardless of her abilities, she has no right being the main character. This boils down to tradition and the feminazi socialist agenda to indoctrinate are children through hollywood propaganda

I doubt there will be any explanation. It just will be unexplained.

Young heroes have been around at least since David and Goliath, and Gideon and Samson before that.... But even David had already killed a lion and a bear....

I was find the insistence on feminism silly....

It's part of the new disney agenda to turn little girls into the next leaders and little boys into a bunch of sensitive stay-at-home dads so they're easier controlled by their female overlords

It's part of the feminist conspiracy. Yep, there's a girl and a black guy in the main cast. What happened to good old fashioned movies featuring wholesome white male leads? In my day, Lando and Leia knew their places. Goshdarn changey change.
And black guys in the main cast lead to black guys in avatars. Dangerous.

Also: too bad nobody saw it the same fucking way. At all. Even the industry insiders.

Why on Earth did Star Wars insiders think kids would relate to Kylo Ren over Rey?

Why On Earth Did Star Wars Insiders Think Kids Would Relate To Kylo Ren Over Rey?

It happened with Gamora. It happened with Black Widow. It even happened with with Princess Leia. Over and over again, toy manufacturers have left out key players from blockbuster franchises. Those character all have one thing in a common: a uterus.

The latest casualty was Rey from “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.” From Monopoly to action figure box sets, fans were hard pressed to find the ACTUAL PROTAGONIST of the film. There was a Black Series action figure, a tiny action figure…and that’s it. Better than some merchandising campaigns, but a paltry offering for the face of a new generation of Star Wars. Yet Kylo Ren was everywhere, his mug plastered on everything from blankets to stuffed animals to, well, mugs.

How did this happen? According to an industry insider, it was by design. No one expected Rey to be the breakout star of “The Force Awakens.”

God damned feminists taking over our God damned movie industry with their.. ... not recognizing female leads at all..?

The marketing tended to showcase Finn as though he were the main character, sure, but what's your point? Either way it's either a black or a woman. Poe Dameron was CLEARLY the main protagonist and I didn't see him painted biggest on the poster. Cause he was totally caucasian, even if the actor isn't, it's clear the character is supposed to be white.
