The spring buds bursting
In the warm glow of evening -
I sit here alone.

Bloated with my blood
The gnat flees to breed, to die,
And where are you now?

The hardness of stone -
Boulders resting, the coolness
As my bones grow old.

This night of longing
Even the shrouded mountains
Seem frail as shadows.

What is betrayal?
Bat swooping in the lamplight
Has mastered the dark.

Visions crowd my mind -
The golden sunlight, your smile,
Ah! the pain, the pain.

Struck by this beauty
My wish took wings to tell you -
And I knew my loss.

By the rushing brook
So long beneath the cold stars
Alone with my tears.

You loved me, you said.
But this night air is so cold -
What is that to you?

A cry in the dark,
Owl shattering the silence
Pierces from your heart.

Tonight's moon, so bright -
One half smothered in darkness.
I thought I knew you.

With spring, the blooming
Of these drab twisted remnants -
Another year gone.

The birds are singing:
To my leaden heart, why so?
This grey ache of dawn.

The flow washes clean
And if there was a river
Running through my soul?

Probably a bit on the self-indulgent side, these... they were written several months ago after a sudden and unexpected breakup with my now-ex. I'm not normally that interested in the haiku form, and really haven't written too many. Really, I wasn't feeling at all inspired, just needed something to occupy my mind and distract myself from how agitated I was feeling. If they came out well it would be a distinct bonus.

I tried to make these relatively authentic in terms of mood and structure nonetheless. I was perhaps a bit pedantic putting them into 5-7-5 verse as I know that's not really necessary in English. These are all obviously on the same theme and I arranged them into a kind of sequence. Maybe I'll put up some others that didn't fit the theme later.

You say that but funnily enough these come across as a natural outlet for your thoughts completely uncontrived

Funny isn't it - that bit actually takes effort!
