Deep Space nine and Voyager have characters with dark tragic pasts who are capable of things that many would consider monsterous. Elim Garak, The Institute Augments, Sloan, Damaar, Seven of Nine, Eddington, Barclay, Joran Dax helping Ezri hunt a killer on the station. The maquis crew on voyager, Lon Sudor. As someone who struggles with the darker aspects of a life lived with such things walking within and behind you. Its it just means so much to have hope for a future where people like me where were not relagated to the monsters and villains because it would be easy to do. When you think how these characters allowed the fedartion to make a real impact they might not have otherwise been able to win.

next episode the magnificent Ferengi. Another 7 samurai retelling, but I like it with the comic slant. I also realize as much as I dislike him. I'm going to miss Keevan. The Voorta are just so great.

Waltz is one of the most terrifying episodes of Deep Space Nine. Sisko having to delicately manage Dukat's madness, while sensing that if he gives Dukat what he wants Dukat will kill him. I have to realize that Sisko can here Dukat talking to Damar and yelling at Weyoun and Kira. When he realizes the transponder has been rigged. You can see the adrenaline dump of fear in his eyes.

I love the Vorta; the interesting thing about the Dominion is that all the species except the Founders are genetically engineered. The "origin story" of the Vorta is so great.

I enjoy the Vorta also. I'm hoping we get to see them in a new Trek post Odo in the Link. But I doubt they'll hold the same warm fuzzy in my heart without Jeffrey Combs and Iggy Pop. I made some homebrew monsters of the Vorta and Jem Hadar for my Spelljammer Campaign.

Dominion is like a dark reflection of the Federation. The founders are actually a pretty tragic, sad race. They're an oddity in a galaxy full of humanoid, organic lifeforms that are all defined by their unalterable forms--no wonder organics tend to distrust the amorphous, fluid nature of the changelings. Humans in ST could've easily gone down a path of xenophobia and imperialism (as we see in the mirror universe and almost happening in Enterprise in the Prime Universe), but they were able to find more commonality than difference in other humanoid races. It's kind of sad the founders never met other changeling races. I was always curious where Marta's race came from, and if the founders were aware of other changeling species, and if so, do they hold them in higher regard than non-changelings or do they still look down on and distrust thoem?

Another thing I'm curious about, I wonder what Klingons think of past human warrior civilizations like the vikings and Mongols. I wonder if they look at that history and wonder what happened to humans? On the flip, klingons weren't always a 100% martial culture. I wish we got to see more of the klingon scientists, poets, artists, commoners in star trek.

Despite all of their reverence for tradition, mythology and lore, the klingon culture is sorely missing a true spirituality, IMO.

Well we know they LOVE Shakespeare. So they are aware of ancient earth cultures. I've got a little brain candy for you. Klingons could be the "ancient aliens" of earth. Think about all the ancient warrior cultures and then look at the scene in You are cordially invited where Martok Tells Worf how their culture works.

I enjoy Armin Shimerman's portrayal as Herb it shines to me because as ethically dubious as Quark is, Herb is this paragon of integrity. I think all the cast did well playing alternate versions of themselves. I think I'm biased, because as a writer its kind of how it works. Your characters often look like people you know, but with the personalities all swapped around. But more than that I like how both are real. It feels like one man on Earth: Bennie, who was probably an ancestor of The Sisko, who was visted by the Prophets to set in motion the events that would unfold in Star Trek Deep Space nine, far in the future, across the stars.

I would say more here, but I haven't seen most of these episodes. I've seen like 5- 10 TOS episodes, 2 and a half seasons of TNG, 4 and a half seasons of DS9, and the Voyager and Discovery pilots. I strongly dislike the Enterprise theme song (it's a product of its time in the worst possible way) which will probably scare me away for quite some time. There's just too much Star Trek out there for me to see it all.

Ive bitched about it before I think, but Change of Heart is a good episdoe that pisses me right the fuck off lol. The performances are great the episode is fine. But the concept is born of contrivance. Sisko would have sent Garak, Bashir or Obrien with Worf. Not Jadzia. Not alone.

Not because of Jadzia or anything, but just because a husband and wife duo alone on a sensetive mission even if only a message just isnt done.
