When they ask me if my cup is either half full or half empty. I reply with: I think I am lucky enough simply by having a cup at all.

There is something truly dark in this.

2026 Senate Election Interactive Map

The 2026 map will again be unfriendly to the Democrats.
Many states have significant gerrymandering which keeps their representation in the House of Representatives from accurately reflecting the political makeup of the state. This has resulted in several states having more Republicans in congress than their voters really want. Of course, these folks resist the creation of fair maps with all their might, to include massive disinformation campaigns when citizens try to impose it through ballot initiatives.
There's a few states where people are running on a democratic ticket, getting elected as democrats then flipping to republican once they get in their jobs. I'm not a fan. It seems disingenuous at best, sinister at worst, and I wonder why its not illegal to do that.
Yes, it should be illegal to switch party affiliation during one's term of office.
There is something truly dark in this.
I always say the cup is completely full - partly of water (or the liquid of your choice), and partly of air.

Good riddance to him. Not sure if I am completely happy about this though. It would have been fun to see him get humiliated in the next election. He has certainly done significant long term damage to the countries economy.

One can never feel safe with narcissists like this guy though. Wouldn't be surprised to see him back in politics in a decade or so. And people have short memories and surprising political naivety.

He and Melania are probably hooking up on a beach somewhere by tomorrow.

edit: Apparently midjourney doesn't appreciate my attempt to create a picture of Trudeau and Melania getting a sun tan on a tropical beach, no matter how innocent and clothed they are. Everyone is running scared. This world is really starting to suck.

The thing about the presidential pardons, it just makes me think about how closely an ostensible republic has come to resemble the monarch type social orders that it was expected to replace.

That is probably music to the ears of the right wing who likely see it as inevitable but it shouldnt be, as usual it'll be real late in the day before they realise the trend is towards the worst of all possible worlds.

The drug addled, alcoholic elites will pretty much do anything other than admit that privilege is and has been part of the problem the whole time and cant go on as it has done without getting the same result it always has.

Here’s how annexing Canada would change American politics

Absurd times, absurd articles.
This is just election math, there is no cultural element that is much harder to calculate.
I mentioned this in a Canadian forum as a reason to not get too worked up over Trump running his mouth on this subject. He's just too dumb to do election math (or maybe he doesn't realize where Canada sits on the political spectrum). Somebody in the Republican party would figure it out eventually.

Of course, some one replied he could just make Canada a US protectorate (no participation in elections). Not sure the mechanics behind that, but it Trump wants it, now that SCOTUS is corrupt, anything can be made legal in his new regime. Even passive Canadians might rise up about losing their voting rights, for all the good it would do us. Not sure what NATO rules are if one NATO member attacks another, but I sense everyone would tuck tail and run if the US became the next pariah state. Maybe we could get China to join NATO if the USA opted out to war monger.

I jest (I hope). Trump needs to get in office so he has something better to do than ramble on at pressers. Or at least have to ramble on about all his policy failures while calling them the best thing ever. At least, that's what 'people' will be saying!

An attack on a NATO member should technically trigger (or allow the attacked member to trigger) article 5, even if the attacker is also a member. There is no guarantee the other members would follow the treaty if the US is the agressor but that's the legal situation. But these days most attacks are presented as a form of defense so Trump would have to claim the Canadian monopoly on maple syrup poses a threat to US interests or that all French speakers are nazis and anglo-Canada needs to be liberated and ... voilà!

Just for the record: in Europe there is kinda similar debate about not giving him the Greenland. Which is technically a part of Denmark.
Various big faces are already talking abut "collective holding the line" against him.

But yes, he will need to set priorities: Canada, Greenland, Panama, massive trade war with China, illegal immigration, crime, tariffs for everyone, deficits, Ukraine, Middle East ..... you can't escalate all of that at once and hope it will work.
