The image of Jacob Anthony Chensley (a.k.a Jake Angeli, a.k.a "Q Shaman") inside the US Senate chamber dressed up as a cross of Ragnar Lothbrok and Braveheart appalled everyone and not just in the United States. Not only that, but it seems that the riot was the push many Americans needed to denounce and shun Donald Trump and his political movement. (Let's not pretend that most of it, especially booting Trump out of social media, happened when it was certain that he would be out of power.) Shocking as the riot was, it was more of a farce than almost everything else that has been happening in the United States under Donald Trump: and it's surprising that a lot of people have been willing to justify or minimize some of the atrocities that have taken place over the years, but said that the viking is beyond the pale. Like the hundreds of thousands of people dead from the pandemic, with thousands of extra corpses piling up literally every day. Continuing the complicity with Saudi Arabia's criminal war in Yemen and its ramping up of political repression which included, but that it's by no means limited to, journalist Jamal Khashoggi. Or storing immigrant children in warehouses, sometimes sending them or their parents back to their countries without either knowing. Or stuff like this:
Even amid the coronavirus pandemic and orders that kept millions at home for weeks, police shot and killed 463 people through the first week of June — 49 more than the same period in 2019. In May, police shot and killed 110 people, the most in any one month since The Post began tracking it...[George] Floyd’s death was “one event in a continuous system of oppression,” said the Rev. Graylan Hagler of the Plymouth Congregational United Church of Christ in the District. “We know some names now, but there are thousands of those we do not know.” Or this. And of course, the millions of people that stuck, and still stick by Trump through all this and more. Let's be outraged by January 6, but don't let that eclipse everything else.

because of all the things that could have possibly been...it was that thing that was too much? That was the line in the sand. Not ANY of the rest of it, but THAT. A farce indeed.
