Thank you Kai! I would like to add as well that unconventionality may or may not be appreciated by all. This is not necessarily fair, but it is true. In some circumstances, you will experience negative reactions or outcomes. That is not a problem for some people. It does become a problem however, if those reactions are hurting your self-worth (as hommefatale was saying) or if you have agreed to a social contract (such as a particular workplace, club, social group etc) that calls for more conventional behaviour. If you already know the rules, you join according to whether you are willing to comply or not.
