Today is Beast Boy's IEP meeting. For the uninitiated, that's "Individualized Education Program." It's the plan you make with the school for your special needs child.

I'm expecting it to be pretty routine. Overall, things have gone well this year, so I don't anticipate needing to go in there guns ablazin'.

He gets some accommodations for his slow motors for writing and he gets speech therapy and I think that's been adequate for the academic/social stuff.

I'm going to ask about occupational therapy for his finger-biting and shirt-chewing. It is a type of 'stimming' I'm pretty sure. Maybe an OT could come up with some alternative behaviors. His shirts are all looking horrible and he has developed a callous on his finger from biting it when he's excited.

The older he gets the more this kind of thing is going to stand out to his peers and he will be in middle school year after next.

I need to ask how is interfacing with his classmates. I'm not aware of any major problems, but I need to pin them down and get their opinions to make sure there isn't anything that he needs extra help with or that I need to be working on at home.

I always get nervous before these things. *sigh* Time to go eat so I'm not shaky and take Imodium so the nervousness doesn't make me sick and attempt to don a professional look, so I can have the confidence I need to be assertive. :peepwall:

Edit: Update: It went well. It was just me and the speech therapist and she is fantastic and nice. She's going to check with the OT about the chewing and she said he's doing okay socially. So good news.

I also learned why Cyborg's tardies have suddenly gone way down. The speech therapist has been shepherding him through breakfast. Did I mention that she's fantastic?
