LOL! But yeah, they are pretty freaky up close. (And no, I'm not talking about ENTP's!) Compared to the African Wild Dog though, the Hyena's appear "bulkier" or "fatter" and their front legs are a tiny bit taller than their hind, I think.

As far as their behavior goes, it reminds me alot of coyotes here in the northeast.

If they have a long neck, it's because their jaw's muscles are the most powerful of the animal Kingdom. They can crush any bone rather easily.
This could explain the iron chains you see with tame Hyenas. Not because they're that dangerous (Hyenas are very docile and not aggressive at all, it's a question of hormones), but because they could gnaw any conventional leash in a matter of second.

No, Hyenas aren't related to canids, despite their appearance. As a matter of fact, they belong to same order than Mongooses and Meerkats, and hence, are genetically closer to Cats and Lions than it seems.

The most distinctive trait of Hyenas compared with any true feline or canid is their brain and intelligence, which is far superior.

No, the teeth aren't the same at all.

Plus, Hyenas are docile, calm and even placid when tamed. They are the opposite of what we could call a "ferocious animal". It's because they lack the high levels of androgens prevalent in other species of carnivores.

At last but not the least, I fear Wargs aren't able to laugh when scared.

Evidently hyenas are more closely related to meerkats, mongooses, and other shit than to canids. That's only what wikipedia told me though, who knows if it's true.

Also, I like octupi (or is it octopusses) and squid. Especially the giant kind.

Well... Actually, my source was the "Classification phylogénétique du vivant", a book written by my friend Guillaume Lecointre.

Although he's rather a specialist of fishes (Teleostei), he's trained with DNA comparisons. So I would trust him.

The female hyena anatomy is very similar to a male’s because of the high testosterone level in her body. The birth canal merges
with the urethral duct and exits the body in a penile-like appendage. Copulation and birth occur through this same opening and can
be traumatic.
