LOL! I do the same thing...only I'm kinda naughty, and wee bit (I hate to admit) passive aggressive, because then some one will suggest Chinese and I then say "Na, don't feel like that." and they rattle out a few options, and we round it down that way.
One boy friend of mine caught on to this, he used to say it was the only way he could work out what I wanted. It exasperated him though.
