Don't hate me...I'm sure people hoped this thread would just fade into the background.....
In real life, where there are more Ss than Ns, Ns are the ones who are made to feel stupid. The only people who ever insult my intelligence in real life are S types. They accuse me of not having common sense, or my ideas not being practical, or just plain stupid. Maybe the pendulum swings both ways, but it just doesn't look like it - it's an optical illusion.
I can't say it's the same for myself, and I'm kind of puzzled by this because it just doesn't reflect my own experience or the experience of the N's I know, or how I see people interact around me. I just don't see people insulting each other all that much, and based on this thread, N's insult S's just as much, if not a lot more, when it comes to a lot of this stuff.
Now I've never really felt like I fit in anywhere - so maybe I've always felt rather out of place, and have never felt I jive with our 'culture' at large (this is an ongoing theme) - but I think some of it is self-imposed. N's might communicate differently, or see and process things differently, but I think the act of communication falls on everyone's shoulders equally - and there isn't a 'right way' of communicating or processing events. Just lots of different ways.
While we're talking about S stereotypes, I think it's an equal fallacy to say that by being N one is therefore automatically impractical, completely clueless about one's surroundings, or ignorant of how the world works and what's realistic. Maybe many N's are this way, but I don't think it has to go hand in hand.
Or maybe since I think I'm pretty practical and realistic, even though I am in introspective-musing-Ni-Ti-land half the time, that means I'm an S?
I guess I just wanted to post this because I get equally aggravated with some of the N biases out there - that simply aren't true for all N's.
Like others have said, N's don't monopolize the Ni/Ne functions, just as S's aren't the only ones using Si/Se. We all use bits and pieces. It's how we function as human beings, and adapt to things. (And yeah, some will neglect or discard some of the functions for one reason or another.)
