Oh and can someone explain how a shotgun is "home defence"? Surely the one thing you are guaranteed to mess up is your home! Plus is there any weapon that's slower to reload?

For pure aesthetics I'm afraid I have to choose canadian...

There's simply nothing prettier than a modernised M1911 design IMHO. Esp one that fires a double stack clip of .40S&W (yeah I know.. imperial... hypocrisy is not a sign of how correct it is).

As for rifles, .50? Who the hell would want an anti material rifle? Seriously.

A walther WA2000 would be my choice, if they still made them. And that's only because no one wants to spend out on a H&K G11. Damn those 5.56mm fanatics. I still don't see how volume of firepower at 400 yards makes much difference. Surely they'd be better off aiming at a longer range and hitting the targets rather than just worrying them? Besides the G3 is way cooler than any M16 clone or some jumped up design from italy or the UK. Mind you we'd have the best rifle out there if some yank hadn't thrown his dummy out over the 5.56!

Oh and for those who think the .50 DE is intimidating may I present the Raging Bull.. built upon the .454 casull

I haven't handled a FN five-seven, but I like the concept. They need to make a compact version.

If I were shopping today, I'd look into the Walther PPS.

Compact version? What for? You want to be able to find the darn thing don't you?



Besides I cannot think of a situation where concealability would be that desirable and I'd still want a gun.

Also, a bit off topic, but how do ya'll fair with bows and arrows? I've ALWAYS wanted to learn about them.

I'd say these are more my style. I've shot far more arrows from more bows than all the guns and bullets I've shot put together. There's something nice about a good "thok" when the arrow hits the target.

The thought is that it is easier to aim during times of stress plus the pellets lack the power to go through multiple walls and harming unintended people in other rooms (same reason that I have a .380). As for slower to reload; I don't really understand that? I have automatic shotguns for hunting that all hold 5 shells + 1 in the chamber and faster to reload than a revolver or clip with the exception of using another clip or a speed reloader for a revolver.

largely accepted as the most effective style of firearm at close ranges, heavier punch and more likely to quickly disable or discourage an assailant, unlikely to go through walls and windows and kill your family.

however, i dont believe a firearm is a good method of home defense for everyone. personally i would not want to risk losing my physical advantages if a gun were involved and somehow got into their hands, baseball bat is much better because someone smaller will not be able to do much with it.

May I ask why? .. I'm no expert, but in my head a gun seems like the deadliest hunting tool in comparison to a crossbow. Or am I mistaken? (Not to underestimate the crossbow )

^ Ugh.. Entirely embarrassing, I must say. I think the worst I've done is a couple times I was so concentrated on making my mark with the M16/M4 (whatever I'm using at the time) that the kickback hits against my eye pro and I get a little nose bridge bruise by the time I'm done on the range.

Also when I first handled the m9 beretta (and a hand gun at all actually) the slide back sliced my thumb open handling it wrong.

Yeah, I agree. Although, with some handguns (such as mine) you can't fire even if there's one in the chamber if you just release the magazine.

So, the best solution is to have both a gun and a knife. If someone somehow gets close enough to you to get the gun, you have a backup, which at that range...is just as useful.
