I agree. But where do you think the majority of people are going to get their news?
Social media, probably, but that is an even bigger sh*t show for the most part. And even when it comes to social media, most content is subject focused (i.e. it's focused on one specific area like politics, war in Ukraine, China issues, abortion issues, whatever). You can find useful information out there, but one really has to dig for it. Most people won't.
There is no good place for what I would refer to as "current affairs" information (as in, what newsworthy events are happening in the world today). There is still no good alternative to the mainstream media as far as I can see. Sad that these mainstream media are such a disappointment. And even when it comes to current affairs, they don't deliver. Most of the networks you mention are mostly US politics and hot button social issues all the time. The most watchable show on CNN is at 2:00 am (CNN newsroom live). It's generally just an anchor person reading the news. Few, if any, talking heads (so more information, less opinion). Banished to the middle of the night when no one is watching.
Alas, information doesn't fan the flames of moral outrage, and doesn't draw those eyeballs. I guess the root cause of the problem is people don't want to be informed, they want to be entertained (i.e. emotionally riled up). It's no wonder society has become as polarized as it is.
