Trump's statements are way less eloquent.

I noticed that. I wonder if those statements are translated, or if this is a cultural difference between Italy and the U.S.

Thought it had to do more with the general persona of the candidates. Trump gets off on projecting a more brash image, his character fairly one dimensional- the example of Uncle Sam traditionalism, rejecting all that is potentially superfluous.

Berlusconi vibes slightly more naturally dynamic, he isn't doing as much work to project a particular image- half of what Trump says seems as if it is almost overplayed to further his own image- Berlusconi is just naturally a narcisist.

Trump seems devoid of the sx instinct, Berlusconi seems like a sx dom.

But this is giving Trump the benefit of the doubt that he isn't just an idiot.

I would think most people that run for public office are SO types. So much of it is dependent on networking and bargaining with various other individuals.

I think Trump is actually probably intelligent. He has a good sense of what a decent chunk of the public wants to hear. I think Trump doesn't really understand the American political system, though, but few people actually do. Trump's best shot to survive the primaries is to appeal to religious conservatives, and this is unlikely to work. He'll appeal to them as much as Rudy Giuliani did.

I absolutely think Trump is intelligent, but in the sense of the current political climate he is struggling to relate. He hasn't really mastered subtlety and he instead tries to acclimate his naturally blunt personality into everything that he does in a way that comes off as sort of dull- but in a way that makes him memorable. He is much more strategic than he lets on, I suspect he will attempt to merge more fully into something more wholly digestable- something more bland- as the processions go on, but for now what he is doing is working- so why change it.

I think he enjoys being the showman too much to ever be content with making himself more bland.
