Electronic Tribes and Religion

We see the globalisation of religion in the first attack on Islam in Christchurch, New Zealand, and the revenge attack on Christians in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

The whole world is globalising, including religion. Religions now speak a global language of ritual violence. And it is ritual violence to establish religious identity. Globalisation threatens our taken for granted identities, it threatens who we think we are, and so like traditional tribes, we engage in ritual violence to establish our religious identities.

Traditional tribes engage in ritual violence, that look horrific but few are killed or injured, in order to establish their tribal identities. And this is what we do, we engage in ritual violence, called terrorism, to establish our electronic tribal identities. And note, although the violence is horrific, the number killed in minuscule compared with the death toll of WWI or WWII.

Globalisation has swapped ritual violence for war between nation States. So this is an improvement.
