When someone is trying to type someone figuring/figuring out function stacking, how exactly should they go about it?

Here are some possibilities

A. Find out which functions they are good at.
B. Find out which functions the are most confidant in "using"
C. Find out the functions the person likes using more
D. Whatever else you can think of.

And can you explain why you think the one you chose is correct?

In my experience the best way to figure out ones type is have them talk about various things (how they approach work, how they approach people, how they think about those things, etc.). These things will end up being illustrative of functions in use.

Essentially, interview the person.

can you elaborate on D?

Re-create their mental experiences and compare these to the previously created recreations of the mental experiences of others who have received a type label applied already. Adjust network in reponse to any changes in information, presumably in ways which are efficient, which depends of course on the system having been designed in an effective manner, allowing for a continuous flow as opposed to clunky ... something something ... gears not turning right, cog fallen out from the machine, entire system malfunction, abandon ship, Houston Houston, all systems go, receiving transmission we're gonna have a problem here.

I agree with that. It seems like the best way to get inside someone's mind. Once you've seen how the person approaches work, people, ect do you compare it to other people who might have their same type or do something else?

None of the above. See what function-attitude(s) color their mentality by listening to not just what they say, but how and why, as well as observing their behaviors and demeanor, and if possible getting an idea of their general focus in life and how they've proceeded thus far. With some people, you can get all of this from a paragraph. From others, you can observe and interact for years & still not know.

In other words, I'd view type more as a theme for someone's mentality and identity, not a process they use/prefer (as in "choice" - orientation may be a better word than prefer).
