I see ESFJs online, which is more than I can say for ESFPs. I think the rarest type online is the ESFP, and most that are online are mis-typed (and are actually ENFP, ESTP, ESFJ, ISFP).

My ESFJ mom is into talking about typology with me, but I can't ever see her sustaining interest in something so non-tangibly-productive long enough to extensively read, much less join and regularly participate in, a forum like this. She likes to do.

I can somewhat relate to this, but my inclination runs that little bit fiercer, it may be because I grew up in the age of video games and computers and so for me there was always plenty to do online and off socially.

So it is easier for me to accept that online has plenty to offer. Without the requirement of physical engagement.

I am a little conflicted about it still, even when I'm enjoying reading I wonder about the marginal cost of spending my time that way.

Yeah, I'm sure it varies from person to person, and I imagine that it's far more likely for a younger person of any type to socialize online, since with grew up with that medium. I feel like spending time on here is social contact for me, but it's way lower-key than IRL contact. Obviously it's not as fulfilling in some ways, but it's still a form of socializing. In any case, I wanted to mention my mom because I think she demonstrates a good "average" ESFJ reason for why they wouldn't be on the site as much as some other types.

There are ESFJs here but most of them are masquerading as INFJs or some other type, because if they were the kind of an ESFJ who is happy and in touch with themselves, they'd be busy "poking" people on facebook instead of hanging here with psychology nerds and freaks. Facebook is the mecca of ESFJs - it's the extension of high school, which usually tends to be the pinnacle of life for them.

Yes there are some exceptions, but that's pretty much how shit works.

Yes, but this here isn't the REAL world. We're on the 'tubes. And to this day, maintaining a social circle of people on the internet whom you do not know in real life tends to hold a stigma. "INTERNET IS WHERE ALL THE ANTI SOCIALS AND PEDOPHILES HANG OUT. It's true, I heard it on TV in between watching Honey Boo Boo."

Don't believe me? Just go to your mother and tell her you met your boyfriend on the internet. Chance are the conversation will be awkward as hell.

Yeah, that makes sense and the generational divide is real but it is changing perhaps.

I have met some young people who believe that social interaction and surfing the web are one and the same, I mean some of them would go for long periods of time without speaking to anyone or leaving the house, that's not really very healthy but I know how it can happen.

I invited my real life ESFJ friend to this forum. She looked at me like I had just asked her if she wanted to do lunch on Mars tomorrow. We're still good friends after that though. She puts up with and is even mildly amused by my Ne weirdness.
