I hate it when our pets die. And what is really weird is that I used to be so hard and calloused about stuff like that.

Our Beta fish seems to be dying today. He was lying on his side in the bottom of his bowl. I put him in a more shallow glass so he can push himself up and breathe air when he wants to. I cried. It seems silly to cry over a fish.

I'm really going to be a mess when our cat goes, though. She is my companion. No matter where I go in the house, she follows me there. She thinks she's dog. She growls when she hears someone walking up the driveway.

I love the sound of her purring.

Aww, I'm sorry about your fishie. And it's not silly--he's a companion, even though he's a fish.

I love my dog like she's my kid. :)

 Pets are members of the family, and losing anyone(/thing) you love is always going to be hard, so it's perfectly fine to feel upset

Thanks to both of you.
I'm the one who feeds him and cleans his bowl even though it's my son's fish, so maybe that's why I feel attached.
Besides, I know he likes me. We conducted an experiment when my son didn't believe me. I told my son the fish gets all excited when I come over to the bowl and talk to him. My son said he does that for everyone. My son tried it, and nothing happened. Then I went over and he got all excited! Pretty smart fish!

He seemed to want to go back in his bowl, so I put him back in but he's just lying on his side on the bottom most of the time. I hope he's not suffering.
