I'm struggling to remember.
During the middle of my 4th birthday party, right before it was time to sing the ceremonial Happy Birthday song and cut the cake, he told me he was going to run down to the corner store to pick up a packet of smokes and get my present from out of his car -- that was 26 years ago, and unless the traffic has truly been that backed up due to highway construction like my mother's been telling me all these years, I'm starting to think he's not coming back.
