A choice? If I had to choose between sensing and intuition, as a way to lead my life and especially to make decisions, I'd choose sensing--unless intuition is a lot better than I think it is. Between thinking and feeling--I'd reluctantly choose thinking because if you could only have one, I believe it would give the best results, but I think some consideration for other people makes it a lot better. Perceiving would be my choice over judging, and it would be easier to choose, but I'd like a little stability in my life too, more than I have now. Extravert/introvert, I don't think you could choose at all, but if you could, I'd take extravert. I could try to act like one a lot of the time, but I'm not sure that wouldn't be too hard to be worth it. Anyway, ?STP. Those are the ones I'd want to decide things by. Significant? Maybe. Since I think they're better, wouldn't I be already living that way?

I've had a GREAT IDEA!! USE ** THIS** TO TYPE YOURSELF BY LABEL! ---> Since the only career I've had is raising my children, and that turned out better-than-average; and since I've been stymied by so many of the type descriptions (Builder, Mechanic, etc.) being career-oriented--I can use the way I raised my children as a reference! I was supportive, but not coddling; I encouraged them to develop their own interests; I gave them honest critiques in areas in which they needed that, but always found something positive to say at the same time; I nagged them enough to get them to brush their teeth, do their homework, take a bath, etc. that they decided they might as well do it before I got onto their case (effective, snicker snicker)... I was dedicated, I was skillful, I used all of my intelligence and yet rarely followed what a book said to do.. and by the time they were 12 or 13, they understood that we were on the same team, and that the things I told them to do usually had a good reason behind them. As a result, there was extremely little adolescent rebellion, at least against me; they rebelled against their father (snicker snicker). They got into no trouble (that I know about) and the few times other students accused them of doing forbidden things in high school, the teachers and administration believed my sons instead of the accusers; they were that trustworthy. Also, one of them decided to give musical performances in the lunchroom instead of eating; the administration made him stop after a week or so, but this is one bit of evidence that I didn't crush their spirits. They're both very successful, very self-supporting adults, and they seem to be happy although weird, each in his own way.
Results: I was a promoter--estp--and a composer--isfp. According to the titles and a snippet of information anyway. Going beyond the titles means a whole slew of additional data to go through. If necessary, I suppose I will. Or I may cancel my internet service. (Frustrated).

Earlier:

1. Find out what "intuition" really means in personality type theory. "In" means inner and "tuition" refers to learning or teaching? In the past I thought it meant some sort of woo-woo ability to know things without actually having any discernable way to know them, but it seems to be something else in personality theory.
** Done, as much as I will right now. It seems to be trying to figure out the world imaginatively rather than factually. I don't do this a lot, but I do remember doing it somewhere back there, vaguely.

2. Also learn about the cognitive stuff--Se and Si and the rest, AFTER the intuition which is holding me up about Ni and so on.
**Started. So far, I'm thinking Se and Fe, and maybe Ti. I wish I could find another test for it than the one I know about. That one gave me Se, Ne, and Fe, independently of reading descriptions and picking out the above. I need more concrete examples (besides the sidewalk.)

3. The S vs. P difficulty may be because I've been very disorganized lately and would really like to be more in control of my stuff, and maybe even act the same way a lot of the time--although I remember that that can be boring to the point of stifling.

4. The feeling vs. thinking: I'm assumed to be intelligent. I read a lot and know some big words, but when I'm talking to people who I don't think have read a lot, I deliberately don't use the big words; I've developed considerable skill at that. My motive, as far as I know it, is to not make them look or feel stupid when they don't understand what I'm saying. Some of them may be sensitive about their lack of education. I care about their feelings. So, feeling or thinking? Using the thinking in service of my and their feelings seems likely. That sounds great--but doesn't help me type myself.

Why do I want to type myself? At this point in my life, I don't know what to do next, and I hope that knowing my type will give some guidance.

Evolving understanding: Assume there's a crack in a sidewalk, and the cement on one side is about 2 inches higher than on the other.
--If an INF trips on it, it could be because he/she was lost in thought about a wonderful imaginary world, or was thinking about a friend's problem and how he/she could help.
--If an INT trips over it, it could be because he/she was mentally designing the office of the future.
--S? That's the next part of my exploration.
--Me: I'd like to think I wouldn't trip over it, but sometimes I would. It could be because I left my glasses at home again, because I hate having to deal with them (rummaging around them in my purse, taking them on and off according to conditions), so I didn't see it from a distance, and my near vision is going too. Or it could be that I saw something very interesting up ahead, or that I'm rushing to catch the bus. Or I could be doing a mental calculation to assess the desirability of the likely outcomes of hurrying and catching it, versus slowing down and doing a banking transaction or getting a snack or whatever and catching a later bus....
Sometimes I'd see it and not trip. I've already learned all I want to about what the pavement looks like from one inch away.

Later note: Is all the figuring with various times and estimated of possibilities (%) extraverted thinking?
