MBTI

Tested as an INTJ the first time and only occasionally do I get ISTJ. There are just too many ISTJ things that don't mesh - tradition, law, society and expectations... I'll stick with INTJ and some sensor-y leanings.

I am either INFJ or ENFJ (I don't really have a strong I/E preference) but I am leaning towards ENFJ. Because depression has clouded my perception of myself for a long time, my self-typings have often fluctuated with my mood. Neither of these types would've been acceptable to me until recently because of the struggle I've had reconciling strong feelings with masculinity. But I've realised now you can still beat the shit out of someone (not that I would want to!) and cry during sex. Guns and roses

My family and circumstances have definitely influenced my behaviour in the past and hence my typing. Living on my own has helped us both get over that, a lot.

How much influence do other people have on what types you consider for yourself?

Quite a bit. A large part of who a person is depends on how they are perceived by others. I would even listen to someone's argument for why I'm an ENTJ 8w7 sx/so if they had one, even though that seems ridiculous to me. A single person telling me I'm mistyped leads me to re-evaluating the entire system and having a lot of doubts.

Do your friends and family see you differently than forum members (for instance, family and friends seeing INFP and ENFP, forum members seeing INFP and ISFJ)?

Strangers/people from school would probably peg me as a T, maybe ISTJ. I don't really have any friends or family irl that know anything about MBTI, but those who know me well would probably agree. As a child if you'd asked my friends what my type was they'd probably have answered with ESFP or ISFP.

This is kind of a superfluous question as it's simply formally reiterating what was already evident in the lists for the most part but I suppose I'll play: yes but the overall motifs are moderately similar when we trim the fat by which I mean, ludicrous drive-by carelessness.

My ex (who probably knows me best in this world) thinks I'm INTP (or INFJ) because I am able to retreat in social situations (that don't interest me one bit) if I have my own things (read: difficult times) to go through. She thinks I'm introverted and I think she is as well but it isn't the case for either of us. Most of the people I know can't type other people. Considering their impressions about me, I would most likely be ENTP or ENFP, but any XNXP could do.

I feel like I take a lot of influence from other people. Sometimes they make me feel a feeler and sometimes a thinker. Some people see me as a rational-engineer type, some as deeply empathetic, approachable. Dunno why I couldn't be both, maybe ENTPs are approachable. I don't think I've ever been seen as a sensor. And I'm really P, and people know it, somehow I treasure it. Then again, Really many people think I'm more highly extroverted and some people think I'm introverted. It can be that I see people's impressions through what I see myself as, or it can be the other way around. Most probably both, in a never ending cycle of forming my self-image.

I originally tested as ISTP on the MBTI during a time in my life when I was most likely in an Se grip. I retested as INFJ in my early 20's and agreed with that assessment and all descriptions of it for the next 15 years. Last year someone told me about the cognitive functions and I began reading the internet information on how INFJs are so rare that they are almost always mistyped INFPs or ISFJs. It was also a very stressful time in my life so I had a bit of an identity crisis and became very confused about my type and my functions and considered a bunch of different types. The feedback from my family was helpful because my husband said I was absolutely INFJ. My brother said INFJ or INTP. My mom said INFP or INFJ. Now that I am back into a more stable place I am back to thinking I am INFJ.

Socionics and Enneagram are something I don't know as much about. I relate to many of the EII descriptions but that seems to conflict with my MBTI so I'm not sure about that. I wavered between type 6 and 9 for awhile but ultimately I am not passive enough to be a 9.
