Goddamn socialist. ;)

Okay, here’s the thing in all seriousness: why is socialism necessarily a bad thing? And who is declaring it as bad?

Certainly not the struggling, starving, homeless masses.

For the USA? You're serious?

Yeah, actually I am.

You can’t say that capitalism is working when you add up all the systemic bias favoring a wealthy white minority. We’re not even close to being the best country with the greatest democracy in the world, much as we like to delude ourselves. If we were, the likes of Trump would’ve never even gotten elected in the first place.

I don't see socialism in it's true form working in the US. For one it's never been attempted anywhere (the National Review chuds claim otherwise with no examples or facts).

Democratic socialism doesn't halt capitalism. But most Americans think it does. Dem socialism doesn't nationalize major industry. But most Americans think it does. Dem socialism doesn't seize banks and financial institutions, But most Americans think it does.

This is more of the reality in America...

The capitalist system, in it's current form, is entirely broken for the majority of people in the US. But the fear of change in any way make them argue stupid just like the above ^^.

Let me guess - those loons are from a small village in Michigan. Are they armed? Have they visited Jocelyn Benson's house recently, yelling at her through a megaphone ?

It's not just Michigan, dude. I'd say it's the average GOP voter, which are nothing like the bowtie dipshits the pundits are all pals with.

Trumpism is just the logical consequence of GOP policies.

Remember when Republicans were sane and were doing things like burning Dixie Chicks cds and pouring French wine down the sewer, because they were sane?

and there seems to be nothing you can say or show people that they're willing to understand. Joe McCarthy's lich-like corpse is smiling somewhere.

something similar to libertarian socialism worked for the Iroquois nation, and that was a "primitive" society which covered a fairly large area of land, larger than some modern nations in area. could it work nationwide? possibly, but it would take mass reorganization of government and society starting at the local levels and up to the states. I don't think it's impossible in the US. Presently I think the best we could do would be a more responsible capitalism with an emphasis on more worker ownership--worker owned businesses would be a great start. Companies need to operate in the best interest of the public, albeit without doing so at the cost of their survival, but putting companies into the hands of the employees might be a good start. I support a gradual shift to pure socialism, rather than an abrupt revolution, as past revolutions in the name of socialism have almost always led to despots and authoritarian regimes practicing watered down fascism with nationalized industry versus true socialism

also, there was arguably a socialist nation in the Bahamas during the early 18th century, however it was quickly crushed by the British government. Also the pirate colony of Madagascar was a libertarian socialist society.
