something similar to libertarian socialism worked for the Iroquois nation, and that was a "primitive" society which covered a fairly large area of land, larger than some modern nations in area. could it work nationwide? possibly, but it would take mass reorganization of government and society starting at the local levels and up to the states. I don't think it's impossible in the US. Presently I think the best we could do would be a more responsible capitalism with an emphasis on more worker ownership--worker owned businesses would be a great start. Companies need to operate in the best interest of the public, albeit without doing so at the cost of their survival, but putting companies into the hands of the employees might be a good start. I support a gradual shift to pure socialism, rather than an abrupt revolution, as past revolutions in the name of socialism have almost always led to despots and authoritarian regimes practicing watered down fascism with nationalized industry versus true socialism

also, there was arguably a socialist nation in the Bahamas during the early 18th century, however it was quickly crushed by the British government. Also the pirate colony of Madagascar was a libertarian socialist society.

To be honest I think discussions about socialism or capitalism are pretty dated.

We're living in a society that's neither and has its own unique features which I think militate against either socialism or capitalism, despite their supporters trying to steer it in vaguely defined directions they think congruent with their separate visions.

Remember when Republicans were sane and were doing things like burning Dixie Chicks cds and pouring French wine down the sewer, because they were sane?

I reckon the loss is going to create a crisis among the right wing of America resembling that which Trump's win spread among liberal america (there is no left wing america) and in that respect I expect this to be pretty interesting. See how the average right winger responds to being in crisis, how they respond as a movement to developments.

Like I've said before, this all seems like a monkey wrenching of different political extremes, pushing them over the edge into different kinds of mental illness. At one time its the liberals at another the right wing. Same thing, different target maybe, but same thing happening. Its some sort of public management or social control to ensure, more or less, business as usual for the one percent.

Well, some folks aim to change that. I think you gotta start at a state and a local level. I think in particular there are opportunities in places where the Democratic party has gone unchallenged for a long time; there is likely some degree of complacency that has set in.

It's very funny to watch them behave the exact way they said they never would. I gotta say I don't have much sympathy for the psychological crisis this is producing.

Yes, a mixed, or new economic model is necessary. The old economic theorists didn’t really anticipate certain technological innovations.

Trump signs COVID-19 relief bill with $600 stimulus checks

The Art of the Deal:

1) Make a ridiculous grandstand over bill you don't agree with

2) Throw everything in disarray and receive harsh criticism from both sides

3) Stand your ground for a few days as a display of your strength and resolve

4) Eventually cave, sign said bill, then sulk on Twitter for a few days

Hidden step #5: Use vital aid bill to divert attention away from pardoning loyalists who broke the law on your behalf

As reported on Trump media: "President pushes for greater economic relief but is stymied by deep state."

Minorly connected -- USPS is still fucked up from the attempts to derail the vote.

Today I got a card that apparently was to the house owners, two or three owners back. That isn't the messed-up part, it's that it was mailed from nearby in MD to a MD address, but somehow took a slight detour to Macon GA to get postmarked -- hell, that's only 700 miles off course, ONE WAY.

Folks here in Baltimore are also bitching on FB about packages that got within about 20 miles of their house, then were sent for some reason to Jacksonville and Tallahassee, FL. Needless to say, that is even further than 700 miles (it's in the 850-900 mile category).

Never ever had problems like this with the mail in all the years I remember being alive. Gee, I wonder why?

They should be sick in the head behind bars, if there were justice. They need to stop wasting everyone's time and dragging down democratic practice. After 60+ failed court cases due to lack of any evidence of fraudulent voting (where they couldn't put up), they need to shut up.

I've noticed that every business I've ordered from issues a reminder that packages are currently taking longer "because of the pandemic" - not wanting to touch the real reason with any length pole. I mean, it's feasible to me that more people have mail-ordered things in the past several months, not wanting to go out/to have things delivered, but I have a hard time believing that higher volume accounts for even half of the cock-ups. I'm hearing a lot about packages sent from local sources making their way across the country too.

I do think there's a good argument for charging them with imminent threat (yelling "fire" in theater/creating dangerous situation), but I hope at least disbarrment is on the table too.

Back to the GA election...
Judge blocks voter purge in 2 Georgia counties

-----

Here is something hilarious/ironic to share:

Since I'm in a fed agency, there are typically framed pictures of whoever is in charge that hang in various department front offices.

When Trump won, people were clearing out all the old stuff to make way for the new. I had been wandering through the hallway one day past a dump bin and saw a framed picture of Joe Biden in it. (This was probably before even the 2018 mid-term.) I don't know why I took it, but I was like, "aw man, Joe -- nobody puts baby in a dumpster" and swiped it and kept it tucked away in my cube. I didn't even have any affection for Joe, aside from being part of an administration that was favorable to some things I supported. I didn't even care for him to run for Pres, though.

When I finally get back into the office, I guess he'll be officially president by then, and I will be maybe one of the few non-admin people to have a framed picture of him in my cube.

 How funny would it be to absolutely flood him with "We couldn't have won Congress and the White House without your help. Thank you! -Democrats" postcards?
