Once there were two creatures, up in the sky.
One would ask what? The other why?
One day they were walking along the sky's winding road,
When suddenly What, spotted a new breed of toad.
"Whats that?!" he exclaimed with obvious glee.
Why said: "Why, how could that come to be?"
What frowned and said, "What?"
Why smiled and said: "Why?"
Then with hands in their pockets they both looked at the sky.
After some thought What asked: "What's wrong with this toad on the ground?"
Why replied: "Nothing, I just asked why it should be around?"
What said "Well it just is and that's all we can know"
"It's a new breed of toad with colours to show."
"But" said Why "Why is it here? Where did it come from? What made it appear?"
"I don't know, replied What "And what should I care?"
"To question too much, is to bring one to despair"
"I disagree" said Why "I think questioning is good"
"It shows us the how and gets rid of the should"
"Maybe" retorted What "But are you content?"
"You're always moving with this questioning bent"
"It's simply my view" said cunning old Why.
"I find it most freeing for you and for I"
"To not question things is to leave oneself trapped"
"It would be dire for what's to have us all rapt"
At this point the toad,
whose progress had slowed,
Decided to raise his own point of view.
"It seems to me, Misters Why and What"
"That in solving your issues, you know not a jot"
"Why's and What's are always at war"
"I've seen it too often, i've seen it before"
"So this I propose for usage in life"
"An addition to the questions that divide like a knife"
"With What could come 'IF', to consider what might be"
"And with Why could come 'NOT' so you know what you've got"
The What and the Why,
at first thought this sly,
Until they thought and considered,
and yes even dithered.
Finally wisdom was reached in their heads,
And thanking the toad, they retired for their beds.
So the What If and The Why Not,
went on their way, enjoying the idea of a bright new day.
They now saw the world with a different view,
an understanding of the what and the why for me and for you.
Why should understand What already is,
And What should question realities fizz.
So our two friends, on the road in the sky,
returned to their homes, for a nice slice of pie.
