I think dubstep is going to be the next "big thing" for our new decade.
It's been underground for a while now in the UK but is finally going mainstream in the US.
I heard even Britney Spears is having dubstep beats for her next album(from Rusko).

One thing I've noticed is the popularity of electronic music in the US lately(especially euro-synth style). The mixing of urban and dance music will probably continue in the future. One distinctive sound of dubstep is the wooble bass sound and I aspect to hear more of this sound in 2011/2012. Most music trends that define a particular time period(80s new wave, 90s grunge, and 00s emo for instance) really start earlier in the underground scene then become mainstream.
