IT should have been funny, but its like they took the sweet right out of the sweet potatoes, I should be mad, but Im just amazed. Its like cooking so bad, Im almost impressed. They had to be trying to make it not funny.
Yes. It was bad enough that it felt like someone consciously was TRYING to make it bad, so it was kind of amazing that way.

I probably also haven't forgiven Mindy Kaling for being part of that flaccid "A Wrinkle in Time" bomb....

We've all joked about it for years now, the death of entertainment. Well, we're not laughing now, and Ladies and Gentleman, that's not funny. Well that's not funny at all. We've got to do something to put asses back in front of those screens. And don't give me any of that listen to the audience bullshit, if audences were worth listening to they'd be on television, but no thats what they come to us for, why because we have great ideas, brilliant ideas, we're not out of touch with the average consumer at all.

Wait, what's wrong with desecrating reality? That shit sucks.

That makes me pretty angry that they put him in magic jail for that.
their justification for not putting deadpool in the cinematic universe is wearing thin lol, but Im pretty sure they were counting on you to have been super invested in the shows to watch this movie. Which would be more excusable with better shows. you can make a show that ties into a bunch of fairly decent movies, but can you make a movie that ties into a bunch of mediocre shows? Apparently you can, but is it good? That's up to the investors to decide.

Not only do I want to forget that almost all of Phase 4 happened, but you might as well forget it because almost none of it mattered in the least.

The only two generally "good" films were Spiderman: No Way Home and Wakanda Forever. The rest were either under par, bad, and/or pointless. (I will give Eternals a cookie for actually being universally epic in the last act visuals, though. I'm kinda on the fence with that film, it should have been better.)

The only good shows were WandaVision and parts of Loki. I guess Ms. Marvel and Moon Knight both felt at least unique, but they just kinda got more and more bland as they went. And they ruined WandaVision with Dr. Strange 2.

Literally you can skip almost all of Phase 4, never watch it, and never miss a thing for Phase 5, there's nothing you need to know or that created worthwhile dramatic beats that lingered past the show/film except for what I mention above.

They freaking had the KANG setup at the end of Loki (which was originally the first show planned to release)... and then literally did nothing with Kang for all of Phase 4. I'm interested in Quantumania mainly because FINALLY THEY ARE MOVING TO KANG.

It isn't like Thanos, who is one person, so you can only really have one unfolding plot and resolution. There are many versions of Kang, so you could feasibly use him a lot more... or the various versions of him.

I'm going to be real with you, I only watch these things to compare to a ttrpg, and James Gunn must have had some epic D&D sessions in his home game, because he knows what the people want; and none of the corpos in charge can relate to. The human connection factor that comes from a really good TTRPG experience. Most of phase IV has felt like queerbaiting and wealthy corporate executives hamhandedly trying to frame things from the opposite perspective of relatable and calling it "Zazz." This is how we got Poochie in the Simpsons.

True. I had never watched Critical Role streams either, but watching Vox Machina immediately made me feel like I was sitting in a TTRPG game. I trust Gunn's creative instincts enough (from his past work) to give him some flex on the DC universe building; I think he has a great chance to make something wonderful overall, even if some people originally were hoping for a different approach. I mean, this is what they do in comics all the time anyway; the same properties are just handed off to a new visionary for their exploration. It will eventually all be reset again. But just look at what Gunn has done; and his actors love him and are loyal to him; and his works are offbeat, personal, uncompromised, fun, and yet can be incredibly moving. He knows how to write characters and think in terms of character arcs.

Anyway, yeah, Phase 4 is a prime example of packaging. I mean, I support progressive themes and agendas, and I just found it kind of terrible -- I felt like it was issues-driven without having much creativity or skill, and as you said just continued to suggest being supportive of such things while not really offering it in depth. It was one big marketing exercise without much substance. People don't actually give a shit about all that: They want something real, they want to care about the people, they want to experience things through the people, they want the character arcs to mean something and generate real emotion and caring. I didn't give a shit about almost anything in Phase 4, sometimes because the characters and plots were dumb, other times because the actual skillsets needed to create a meaningful story were not there.

"Make Season four of Community like Dan Harmon would have made it."
"Tell me you know nothing of the humanities while not telling me anything useful."
"What was that?"
"Nothing thats totally how entertainment and art work. Like a business. Everything works like a business thats why business men are in charge and this isnt sarcasm."
"Whoa whoa there killer, save the meta jokes for season 4."

That moment when you realize that the Founders made the Jem Hadar and the Voorta instinctually mistrust and dislike one another so they would always be able to manufacture pyramids they were always on top of...devious. Also when you realize that Section 31 is responsible for whatever information comes from Star Fleet Intelligence, and what that organization likely means about how Starfleet acquires their intelligence...also devious. I maintain that a gritty section 31 series would be a feather in ST's hat, but it would need good writing as well as a fresh cast. Id like to see Bashir and Garak as a couple do a cameo though, or I'll allow for an Obrien because of his ties to Intelligence and the Orion syndidcate, but no one else really has much of a need to cameo ever, this should be a show more like Ds9 in that they have a stationary headquarters even if its a top secret blacksite. but dang this would be a good show. I would also really enjoy a show set in the mirror universe

Yeah, I'm always for running more and more shit like a business. That always makes everything great. And nobody has ever been fucked over by a business!

I just like that the main Founder was also the Terror from the Year 5000. It's such a loveably stupid movie
