eww when you put it that way...

but it's still great. it was the little nudge damar needed.
Damar is one of those characters who born and raised in a fascist regime grew up brainwashed, and unquestioningly obeyed for most of his life. His awakening is well telegraphed, and their occupation by the dominion finally enabled him to put himself in the position of the Bajorans, which I think really clicked for him when Kira asked him: "Yeah Damar what kind of people?" And you can see it all fall into place, his entire life flashing before his eyes like John Murdoch in Dark City, the dominion told them the same thing the Cardassians (especially Dukat) told the Bajorans. Damar is a romantic, he bought into the idea of What Cardassia told him it was, a delusion he had to drink to uphold once he was faced with. Damar is like a lot of people who signed up after 9/11 to serve in the military Damar is a fascinating character, Cardassian culture has always fascinated me having grown up in America.

Too many spoilers
Michael Burnham of ST Discovery is the new Crusher. It's as if the writers are trying to send a message to the fans that they don't learn, so stop complaining. It's the most hated series (Discovery) by fan reviews. However, the ratings are magically kept high. What I love about ST is it's always a team effort show. Rarely one person is always right. I think the writers wanted to create a strong female character who is always right to make the feminists happy.

Are you enjoying TNG? Asking cuz it's so old.

Man it's one of my favourite shows. ST - especially TNG - is my feel good show. When I watch it I want to be a part of it. I can imagine myself in it.
I've only watched a couple episodes of Discovery; I'll watch season 3 of Picard first before finishing that. I don't think Burnham formed much of an opinion on me either way; I've only seen three episodes.

What I love about TNG is that it's such a 90s show. It's completely untouched by the War on Terror and I love it for that. It's sincere in it's belief that people could learn to be better; it would take until the next decade to show us that no they can't. Nobody can really get out from that trap now. I don't even think anxieties about climate change factor into it these days; ultimately it's just the same dumb crap from the 00s kicking around the American psyche but in mutated form. Even Star Trek's fluffy popcorn cousin Star Wars had to get really dark when it returned to the big screen which shows how psychologically inescapable all of this stuff is. TNG has none of this, which is why I love it.

The series is Deep Space 9; the Season is one; the episode 12; Vortex. The Scene is where Quark basically accurate predicts the changelings to a t. And like a true classy guy, he doesn't bring it up in later seasons that we was totally correct.

I wish I could enjoy Disco. It has its moments but it can just be so mean spirited and I hate forced sentimentality.

Kurtzman’s dick just leaves a terrible taste in my mouth

My impression is that many of the younger officers like Damar who looked up to guys like Dukat got their whitewashed version of history and therefore didn’t question too much. They legitimately believed they were the good guys doing right in the alpha quadrant. They came up the ranks at the very tail end of the Cardassian occupation of Bajor and the first Cardassian-Federation war, so weren’t aware firsthand of the Cardassians’ worst atrocities due to the state propaganda machine’s control over the media and history books. They’re like uninformed southerners who still believe the civil war was about states rights and unaware that southern states were in fact seceding primarily with the goal of preserving slavery.

Damar is Kira's foil just as Dukat is Sisko's Kira got her welcome to the other side moment in season one episode progress where she burned that guys house down to force him to leave the moon. Damar has his as you know in season 7 its well done with foils in this series

Yes everyone on DS9 grows through their reactions to other characters. Everyone is a reagent for growth and change. DS9 did it superbly. Even their hologram Vic gives Voyager’s doctor a run for his money. Hell I’d argue Vic was a better character in terms of causing growth in other characters

Its the one thing I want to see in new Trek, Vic and the Doctor having at least an epsidoe long adventure or hell a minisode on paramount plus.

You know they weren't. I would honestly be surprised if they didnt send the Doctor straight to section 31, and in the unlikely event of that not happening, you know they took him and the emitter for further study. "Please state the nature of your conspiracy cover-up." I also doubt the Maquis got pardoned either.

chakotay did. not trying to spoil stuff but based on events in prodigy, he had to have been pardoned and reinstated. i assume janeway fought tooth and nail for the reinstatement of the maquis and for the recognition of the doctor as a full citizen with rights. she was tight with tom paris's admiral dad and i'm sure he pulled some strings too. plus dr zimmerman might have spoken up on the doc's behalf. who knows. there's a lot of blanks and only a few have been filled in with minor exposition heard in Picard and Prodigy. We need an official After Voyager, in the least, they could do a single animated film detailing the events after they returned to earth. It bothered me how abrupt it ended with the finale. At least DS9 took the time to wrap most things up with their finale

that said, there was probably a lengthy debriefing and likely court-martial trial for most of the maquis. the doc's emitter and all of the delta quadrant tech mods from the voyager definitely went to s31 and starfleet engineers for evaluation.

Indeed it was also nice to see Ds9 in Lower Decks, ive yet to see prodigy, so that will likely change my analysis, though ill bet you a cliche to a metaphor section 31 has been spying the fuck out of the doctor.

Maybe they tried to recruit him. Though I think he’d refuse

I don't nessesarily think they would "try" to recruit him then let him go if he refused. That emitter is future tech, there are holograms in a lot of federation and enemy cultures, they would want to understand how he became selfaware and what implications it might mean for everything else. Even if he refused. I think it's only a matter of time before they at least copied his program.

In Season seven Kai Winn admits the prophets never spoke to her. In season one she claims the prophets speak to her.
