In the mystery dungeons franchise, you initially take a personality test to determine what pokemon you will play as (then you can pick your partner of course). Usually it's generalized with relevant starters in addition to like 2 "special" pokemon that are assigned to very specific personality types. I'd assume they took that into account here.
