I wore my big sparkly Hello Kitty necklace and had a Hello Kitty Pen with feathers for keeing life totals and cutesy pink paper.
I Coma Veiled an Indestructable 5/5 Creature
and won
I won two matches 2/0
I made an awesome sealed deck- my big mistake though was not putting in Salvage Titan instead of the Blister Beetle. I didn't even realize how much I had of an artifact deck or else I would have put him in.
You only get 30 minutes to make your deck and man I was so nervous! It was so nerve wracking for me- I was so excited, nervous and new to all of this.
I made several big mistakes otherwise I would have made it to the final round. I should have won another early match easily if I had played my Scourglass- I didn't realize that it didn't effect artifacts- and I had several artifact creatures out- the other guy had big nasties out- if I had used my Scourglass I would have gotten rid of his creatures and mine would still be in tact. I panicked becasue there was only two minutes left in the match and it was the third round and I just attacked with everything instead of playing my Scourglass. That was so stupid- he easily beat me after that, lol.
I freaked out because of the time and didn't pay attnetion to my cards and just panicked and basically I think I gave up inside- I was behind in life. So I lost 2 to 1.
I will never do that again!
I had never played with most of the cards in my deck and so I needed to pay more attention.
But hey
I got compliments on my deck building and for playing well on my first tournament, I was my girly friendly self, I won 5 out of 8 matches and I did all of that with only 2 hours of sleep, nothing eaten all day- I didn't have a meal until after I dropped out after that 8th round and it was like 9 p.m. and Hubby and I arrived there at 8 a.m and I have only been playing Magic for a few months and was playing against people who have been playing for years!
My mother watched the baby for us and we had to drop her off with my mom at like 6 a.m.- we had to get everything and ourselves ready at 4 a.m. and before that I was cleaning bottles and getting things done and reading about Magic Tournaments so I didn't get but 2 hours of sleep before the tournament. We also had to travel to Atlanta to boot!
There was only one guy who was not friendly to me, but everyone else was very nice and gave me advice and was very patient with me as I was a newbie and was haphazardly making my way through, lol. There were three guys in particular who I liked playing with, one was named Tanner- he was spunky and really nice, one was named William I think- he was an older man of generous proportions and just very gentle natured and kind, the third was named Kevin- he had a lot of flair and personality and reminded of Heath Ledger.
I learned a lot. I made several mistakes- even really Stupid ones! but I also did excellent smart moves and plays.
I outlasted my hubby even, he won 1 out of 4 matches and later played in a booster draft game and got 4th place.
It was his first grand prix tournament, he had played in a pre-release tounrament before locally in our city and had gotten 4th place. We both learned a lot and enjoyed ourselves.
If anything we had tons of fun, learned a lot,
it was worth the money and it was a super entertainment filled day- because we just love the game so being able to play it all day and with different people was awesome!
Really on top of that things worked out for the best, we still had the drive back home- the stop to get baby back and all of the baby stuff packed in the car, and I was so exhausted that honestly I don't think I could have made it back the next day if I advanced to be in the top 64- which you needed to be in the top 64 to play the next day and receive money. Top 64 get 200 bucks. I WAS SO EXHAUSTED! There was no way I could have driven to Atlanta early Sunday and been conscious enough to play. They start early in the morning. I didn't even get to bed until 2 a.m. Hubby would have had to watch baby and I would have to be all alone in Atlanta. Next Time we'll get a hotel room and ask my mom to watch the baby for 2 days.
