Eastern Asia, and Africa has a massive religious "cult" presence in a same way America has super churches and a multitude of sects of Christianity as mentioned before. Arguably, the stuff out there (especially in Africa) is a LOT worse than what we have in the West.

I'm really depressed about this. I know grifters and con artists are nothing new in america but they are basically running the show in business and politics now. People openly reject and attack science and reason. It's really depressing and I don't really want to live in this world

I think the hackers and scammers are probably very successful at this point because their games have some true nuance and trickery. I'm impressed with how well designed a lot of schemes are these days and know to never respond to anything the pops up requiring a click to solve a problem.

Then I see a video of a known dictator (known to have committed violence towards his population) giving a bouquet of flowers to citizens returning to their country after being released from somewhere for something. This is all videoed to be televised. The comments are filled with exuberant statements about how the leader loves his people and expressions of great admiration.

It's not diplomatic to say people are being stupid and I don't post responses anymore, but I don't know how a person survives with that level of naivete. There are even pics of Ted Bundy washing dishes with a smile. People don't realize that even the most violent humans can have a pleasant conversation, give some flowers, give a lovely smile, and even say lovely words?

It must be so easy to scam people. I feel really disturbed and sorry for them. I really don't think you can live out an entire life without getting seriously scammed or hacked with that kind of bubble-headedness.

I just saw something that was meant to create a favorable impression of Al Qaeda, and was along those lines. They scribbled black over most of it so it just said Al Q------, because that way nobody will know, lol? I don't know.

There is no possible way I can associate myself with a cause that's in the habit of posting shit like that. There are problems with it on so many levels. Maybe if they toned it down and learned how to not sound like psychos, me (and many others) might feel differently. I know it's been a couple of decades, but Al Qaeda still isn't very popular in this country.

This is related to the problem with language on the left that I think I mentioned earlier. People are forced to use certain language even though it does nothing but alienate people. If people don't use that language, their ideological purity is in doubt, even if other language styles and approaches might actually be more effective at reaching people.

If people can't see why this is a bad idea in 2024 and doomed to failure, it's doubtful we could work together constructively.
