Layoff buzz is ripping it's way through my organization. The Rumor Mill says 24 people will be laid off by Jan. 1, 2009. As insidious as The Rumor Mill is, it's still amazingly accurate once you filter out all the static and cattiness.
Since communication is nil in my department I straight up met with my division director last week. I told her about dealing with the boss and asked her about layoff's within my department. She's an ENFP and is totally shielded by the ISTJ deputy director. I can see how a mature ISTJ/ENFP pairing is an incredibly good thing. But only good for them. The div. director is incredibly charming and a natural salesperson but doesn't want to deal with the details of running a division. It's tearing our department apart. Since the beginning of 2008 we've lost four staff members in my department alone. Now it's just me and my dippy boss.
It's interesting to watch the politicking people are doing to secure their job. I have no idea if I'm on the axe list. I figure since there's only two of us left in my department maybe we're immune. Maybe not. If I got laid off it would be a relief. I feel like my intelligence and competence are under constant assault. Maybe I could stop procrastinating about grad school and actually do the damn thing.
One of my coworkers who works in the library (still Education) says she'll probably get laid off. She's done some snooping (I totally
her.
She's an EnFJ like me!) and found out the last time we had layoff they cut the whole library staff. I love how absolutely even-tempered she is about this whole thing. Since we found out a last week, she's worked out a plan for herself till mid-January. I just got finished talking to her, asking if she's OK with the more-than-likely layoff.
