Confidence and the Pandemic

Confidence is a virtue in business. Sometimes in business confidence is called animal spirits.

Confidence works in business but does not work against a pandemic. For instance, our chief business leader is a confidence man but his confidence is no defence against the virus.

The business of America is business, and good Americans have confidence. Yet thousands of Americans catch the virus every day with long term effects. And naturally they double down in confidence, including their infected leader.

The meeting of confidence and the virus is like an Ancient Greek tragedy, where no one is to blame, and everyone has good intentions.
