Back off, Azerbaijan tells human rights critics ahead of COP29

Something fresh that basically adds up on my big post from today.
Depending on such people for energy is quite a risk in the long run.

EDIT: Azerbaijan was a part of USSR.
Therefore it never really developed even the most basic democracy. Especially since it is between Russia and Iran in the south.
The fact that this conference is happening there is kinda a scam on its own.

Europe could become Trump’s geopolitical roadkill

Europeans never really took to George W. Bush, whose conservative views, folksy Texan shtick and penchant for ill-advised wars most of them found unappealing. They somewhat warmed to him in January 2017 when, eight years after leaving office, a stray microphone relayed his unfiltered insights into the inauguration speech of a presidential successor. “That was some weird shit,” is roughly how Europeans came to remember not just the rambling address by Donald Trump that January day (huge crowd!), but the four years of bluster and contradiction that ensued. When the mogul-turned-president failed to get re-elected in 2020, relief among Europeans at having survived Trumpism in one piece was palpable. Come 2024 the fear they may yet endure another bout of it is even more so. Vague and belated attempts at “Trump-proofing” Europe have fallen short, as they were bound to. Like a deer caught in a lorry’s headlights, European leaders are left hoping the MAGA juggernaut coming their way swerves, lest they become geopolitical roadkill.

To be honest I am getting quite tired of this narrative. Oh ... the helpless Europeans.

EU has something like 130% of the US population. Plus once you add UK with labor government, Ukraine and Turkey which is somewhere around ... that percentage is going over 200%. We also have our own Nuclear weapons and well as the third largest military budget in the world. While if you include out neighbors that are Europe in wider sense of the term that rises to the world's second largest military budget. Even with all the problems our manufacturing sector is still quite substantial. Plus many of our cities are top in the quality of life. Therefore this is the picture that has to be projected. Since if that is projected then we will have to read less of the articles like that one.

In other words if we behave as honest allies to the US in this geopolitical mess there wouldn't be any problems at all regardless who wins in 3 weeks. However that requires getting up and actually doing something with everything we have. The idea that is evidently repulsive to certain people and circles.

You know, I really hate people who write sensationalized headlines. This predates the internet by decades, I know, but that still doesn't mean I like it.
