Evidently news of the day. The populist and Russia friendly PM of Slovakia has been shoot multiple times.

While I would never recommend political assassination in any way (it would lead to pure chaos and Big Brother states) at least an a-hole got some karma in this specific case. It's usually the good guys that get wacked by thugs (I'm thinking about anti-corruption politicians/judges getting hit by drug cartel goons and the like).

But this isn't really surprising. Slovakia suffered heavily during half a century of Communism. What was basically Russian occupation at the end of the day. Therefore when the guy started a full blown realignment towards Russia that evidently isn't going to sit well with some people. The fact that attacker was something like 30+ when the Berlin wall came down probably isn't pure coincidence. The PM started to openly dismantle democracy and said openly he wouldn't help neighboring Ukraine. In other words in Eastern Europe you have plenty of people that are traumatized by Communist era down to this day. Especially since many lost their properties or family members to the system. So when you say you intent to go back that simply encourages various people to do all kinds of things without much shame. Therefore all of this could cause some serious political mess in the country. With this basically all bets are off.

And why are they even allowing them anything resembling a graceful exit?

A Chinese-owned cryptocurrency mine that set up a mile away from F.E. Warren Air Force Base is a national security risk and must shut down and sell out, according to an executive order issued by the Biden administration.

President Joe Biden on Monday afternoon issued an executive order that requires offshore cryptocurrency company MineOne Partners Limited, as well as any related MineOne entities, to immediately cease operation, remove all equipment and improvements, and transfer ownership of their facility to an approved buyer.

The order gives the company 120 calendar days to complete the transfer of its real estate, and to certify that transfer in writing to the Committee on Foreign Investment (CFIUS).

The order notes that CFIUS was never notified by the company — as it should have been — that a Chinese-owned cryptocurrency mining operation had set up near F. E. Warren. Instead, CFIUS found out through a tip from a member of the general public.

The individual or individuals who tipped CFIUS off were not identified.

F.E. Warren Air Force Base is a strategic missile base and home to the Minutemen III Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles, which are a key element of the nation’s nuclear triad.

Biden’s order said there is “credible evidence” that suggests MineOne Partners Limited and its associated subsidiaries could “take action that threatens to impair the national security of the United States.”
