Ugh. I do not like our choices here.
The meds for ADHD are not nice. I knew that, but I hadn't looked at it in awhile and was kind of hoping.
Son is scheduled for an EKG to make sure his ticker is in good shape and I have the scrip in hand so I can fill it when we get the test results, but I'm not feeling good about it.
The side effects are scary. The last thing most autistics need is something that causes sleep problems. The last thing my little bean pole needs is something that causes weight loss.
Maybe if I can work his butt off on the reading at home it won't matter if he's spaced out at school? I don't care about grades at this point. I care about whether or not he is learning what he will need to make him able to get through high school when grades will matter.
I'm not sure I'm that good, though. His independent reading comprehension sucks, so I basically have to sit there the whole time while he reads to me s.l.o.w.l.y in a barely audible voice. I know I'm terrible for feeling this way, but I feel like I'm going to lose my mind from boredom. Maybe if I embroider or something it will help.
That isn't going to help him function at school, though.
Oh well. I will just do the best I can and tweak as a go. Nothing else I can do.
