I instantly think of Pennywise the Dancing Clown (*shudders*), without any real thought process being involved.

I guess it could come from a physical stimulus, but for me its more a piece of information. It will be like, "cracking open" a perception to explain how it all works together, or could come from a question being asked, and to then let the focus of the question "expand" in my mind so I can see the different aspects of it. An example could just be asking "how does Ni work?", and then my mind will look at the symbol "Ni" and try to "mine" into it to get at what I know about how the function works. You could also ask like "how did this red balloon come to be expandable?" and a similar process would occur, with the brain looking at what is known of a balloon including various kinds of science to arrive at an answer.

Note that a single picture is intended to be arrived at in both instances, as opposed to Ne which may answer a question better such as "what are the different characteristics of Ni?" where it can generate a list rather than a single, dense symbol.
