So...
Why Black Lives Matter?
I don't mean the hashtag. BLM is more than just a little movement but is an organization. There are many other organizations related to assisting people of color, blacks especially, in their plight.
So why should I respect BLM more than these other movements?
When I look at BLM's code, it seems fine, but starts divulging into some things that...I am not sure what that has ANYTHING to do with supporting reforms in society to protect the average black person. It becomes like a millennial stereotype of a code of conduct...and technically the discussion of a global family is VERY COMMUNIST. I have no problem with their suggestions of for example, creating work places where the single mothers can have an eaiser time for their children. Or supporting the LGBT+ blacks, especially black trans women who are disproportionately killed within the community. The sort of family thing where everyone becomes the family is actually how many of these nations brainwashed the children into following all the doctrine even heavier than the parents who originally began things. That has absolutely NOTHING to do with assisting the plight of blacks.
We embody and practice justice, liberation, and peace in our engagements with one another. - People involved in the organization, not all the issues were in fact them, but there's no denying some of the people involved with this movement in its existence have destroyed property. That is not at all peaceful.
We foster a queerâ€affirming network. When we gather, we do so with the intention of freeing ourselves from the tight grip of heteronormative thinking, or rather, the belief that all in the world are heterosexual (unless s/he or they disclose otherwise). - That is all well and good but what does this exactly have to do with blacks in general? There are organizations just for assisting LGBT people of color.
We disrupt the Western-prescribed nuclear family structure requirement by supporting each other as extended families and “villages†that collectively care for one another, especially our children, to the degree that mothers, parents, and children are comfortable. - Thing I spoke of above.
We are self-reflexive and do the work required to dismantle cisgender privilege and uplift Black trans folk, especially Black trans women who continue to be disproportionately impacted by trans-antagonistic violence. - We have cisprivilege to dismantle now too??? Of course their lives also matter but this movement is about black people and "white privilege" which is spoken of, not exactly every privilege on earth being dismantled. Pretty hard to do that.
We are unapologetically Black in our positioning. In affirming that Black Lives Matter, we need not qualify our position. To love and desire freedom and justice for ourselves is a prerequisite for wanting the same for others. - But they've had white people on their knees having to apologize.
We acknowledge, respect, and celebrate differences and commonalities.
We work vigorously for freedom and justice for Black people and, by extension, all people. - please see above again. Many of these supporters just yell at you rather than trying, as ceecee and Coriolis have kindly done, to educate people and help them notice things. Many people just don't understand a little hashtag and being screamed at to believe in something without any data, knowledge, or education...
So SAY that I dislike this organization, but that in fact does not make me racist. It makes me desire a better organization that is stronger against extremist and is truly focused on the matters at hand and is more centralized to specific parts rather than something trying to encompass it all and in turn not being able to unite everything. In this ideal can I support other organizations and say "Black lives matter" without following an organization I feel isn't very strong?
http://www.blacknews.com/directory/black_african_american_organizations.shtml for anyone possibly interested, these are some other organizations that also fight for causes within BLM. The NAACP is one of the oldest. There's many selective also for LBGT+, and ones helping blacks enter into certain professions or even political areas. I absolutely encourage everyone to support blacks however possible to help them out of poverty and gaining equal rights as well.
