Well, it's been a full day off for the first time since everyone moved in here, and while it's alright, it's nothing like the peace I had. I seriously dislike the rambling repetitiveness, the noise, the phone...but the lunches are nice, and they do keep the house in reasonable order. Granted I wouldn't be so strapped for money had I not gone there and spent over six hundred bucks on the project, on top of buying food and so-forth for everyone.
My poor orchids I left with my family were nearly dead when I got there, and I've been trying to nurse them back to health since, but one of them has lost so much root system that it might not thrive for a long time. Luckily, the orchids I grow tend to be amazingly resilient, so I'm pretty sure I'll be able to nurse them back to being alright. I just wish they wouldn't continue to look so unhealthy.
Next weekend I'll go buy furniture because I'm tired of sitting at the end of a folding table that shakes and splashes the drinks out of the glasses when you bump it. I also really need somewhere to sit and some real stands to place my plants on, rather than the box that my desk chair came in.
Plants:
The Epidendrum continues to bloom and send out new buds on the existing racemes. More racemes will come online shortly, too.
I cleaned up the old leaves on the Gerbera, and it is now sending up more flowers after I cut all the old ones and the leaves off. A number of new, shorter, stiffer, meatier leaves are left, with some more on the way, and at least 5 new flowers that should come up soon. It's funny trying to make a giant mutant dandelion bloom, because it just seems so wrong.
These glass pots are great because you can tell if you have evenly and thoroughly watered the plants. Also, mom thinks they are pretty because they glow, particularly the red one...
One of my projects in the upcoming month is a plant watering/feeding system so I can mount the plants or containers on a rack holder and water them using a bucket with a pump, then drain excess liquid back into the bucket. I could also use it as a sump so I could use a timer for automatic watering, saving me the work of doing it regularly. We'll see how it goes.
