I understand. I don't have "delicate" sensibilities. In fact, that's partly the reason why I have a hard time embracing 4. There's a kind of dandyism to how the type manifests among people that makes me cringe.
I don't feel that 4s are "dandy". If anything that's a misconception brought about by the disproportionate number of 4s who claim an IxFP type. I am sure that some of them are mistyped 9s, and it's just that the 4 descriptions talk about "romantic artists" and a whole other load of nonsense. Any type can be artistic, and while I do happen to be a composer, I thought I was a 6 until I explored the 4's core fears and desires, as well as the feedback loops, levels of health and thought "oh my god this is so me", and not in a good way either.
Reading that shit was pretty confronting for me actually, I felt like I did reading a sheet from my psychologist about SAD...and you feel like an idiot for not having done anything...anyway. I do sometimes doubt my Enneatype; after all I don't have a gift with language, and I'm not that pretentious or vain. But then again, that's just me comparing myself to the descriptions and beating myself up for not being like the others (while secretly feeling pleased that I defy the norm). This is all typical behaviour for a 4, if an unhealthy one.
So going back to what you were saying, I wouldn't be put off any type by how other people behave. Walking stereotypes of a type are rare, so it's best to take the descriptions with a grain of salt.
