Count me in the percent of Canadians that does not want Canada to join the EU. I'm fine with a free trade agreement of some sort, but I certainly don't need European politics (which are generally irrelevant on this side of the pond) interfering with my life.

Canadians just need to chill and let Trump spew his bullshit for a while. I'm a long way from taking him serious on this issue. It's just more of the crap he puts out to get a rise out of people.

Alas, the general populace is stupid and incapable of clear thinking. So my fellow citizens are running around like chickens with their heads cut off. Until the US Army starts assembling on our southern border this is all just a game.

Not to mention the Liberal party has revitalized it's chances in the election. It's the exact same bunch of losers who everybody hated a few months ago, just with a different loser at the top. Yet in a knee jerk reaction to Trump, everybody likes them now. Sad.

As I said, various trade agreements and cooperation are what is clearly the most likely outcome of all this.
Joining EU isn't simple process and Trump will end his term before you can become a member (if we put things realistically). Therefore you shouldn't have sleepless night over this.
It is just that this is pretty good example of how absurd the world has become.

Also regarding this exact issue. I am not sure how much you are into military strategy but doing it this way would be pretty stupid.

That is because Canada evidently has much smaller army and population and thus the surprise attack would be much more effective. In other words plenty of airstrikes at night at key defensive infrastructure of the defender is much better start. So that the defense is crippled in the very start. After that is done you create naval blockade both from Atlantic and Pacific sides .... and that is basically a checkmate. Therefore only after all that you take your tame and take over the country street by street. After all pretty much everything worth of mentioning in Canada is no further than 100 miles from the border. What really favors surprise method. Especially since this has to be a surprise for the whole world.

I know that I am not "helping" but take care and be ready at least to some degree. This is all from personal experience and as such this is meant to be friendly advice. Yeah, probably nothing will happen. However having some kind of general personal plan is usually smart thing to do when your country is being openly threaten by bigger neighbor. Otherwise if something indeed happens you will probably end up in the "chicken scenario".

It feels a bit like jailing Al Capone for tax evation, but, hey, I'll take it.

From what I have seen the ban is effective immediately but it's unclear to me for how long it will be in place and what her chances of fighting the verdict are.

EDIT: Okay, 5 year election ban and 2 years prison time plus 2 years probation with the ban effective immediately and the prison term open until all appeal options are exhausted.

Careful with wishes.

As you know they canceled elections in Romania over foreign interference (and that has turned into major controversy). In other words a far right guy came out of nowhere and he came on top in the first round (with 23%). Therefore now these elections will be repeated and the far right has a new candidate. Therefore as media started to poll again it came out that the new guy has 30% in the start.

In other words removing old and controversial name "Le Pen" from the ballot is perhaps just what the French hard right needs. Since that is basically the reset of image. Plus the verdict will evidently evolve into political controversy. After all it can be argued that this is exactly what carried Trump over the finish line.

More on how this war can quickly go fully "global".
Especially since in a way it already is, it is just that we don't want to admit it to ourselves.
