Ive liked Mark Sheppard since I saw him play Badger in Firefly. I adored him as Baltar's Defense Attorney in BSG. He's just the best as Crowley. He deserved better.

Yeah, that always cracks me up. I know it would be boring to watch, but basically to choke, drown, or smother someone and ensure they are dead takes minutes not seconds.

Or like "knocking someone out" by whacking them in the face. Maybe the best example is in boxing, where people do get knocked out -- but they might be suffering brain damage if it happens repeatedly, and it's not like they are out for 10-20 minutes and then just wake up with no issues. I think really people knocked out would wake up pretty quickly, not like TV or movies where they're just out for the rest of the night.

I love watching some older shows - like The Avengers, The Prisoner, Naked City, or Columbo - and it's funny how wildly unrealistic those fight scenes are by today's standards (which, as y'all established, still has hella room for improvement). Emma Peel and Steed could take out a room full of bad guys because all it took to knock them unconcious (or kill them) was a gentle Emma Peel karate chop to the face or Steed tapping them on the head with his umbrella. I always assume the novelty of television is why it took so little to suspend disbelief, and choreography/writing has had to evolve over time to keep suspension of disbelief going - yet it still usually leaves a lot to be desired. And it is funny how Archer (as a show) can joke about the shortcomings whilst still not really knowing how to get past them. Because if you go with realistic, it interrupts the narrative flow and subsequently also suspension of disbelief. But if you go with something too unrealistic, that also interrupts suspension of disbelief. So you've got to find your target audience's sweet spot somewhere in the middle. This is something that's niggled at me for a long time.

Edit: I think what lent Emma Peel, Number 6, or characters like James Bond (it happens in early Bond films too) credibility is character development and a suggestion that they're such skilled ninja-like fighters that they know how to kill someone by poking them in the eye at just the precise angle. But by today's standards, it's just really funny (and sorta fascinating) that it was ever convincing.

Another one of those pervasive motifs is "omg she's having her baby NOW!" When a woman's water breaks and about 30 seconds later the kid pops out.... it can take hours, even a day (for people with the worst luck) to finally deliver, but the show obviously can't do that and thus always uses the Olympic delivery motif.

But by today's standards, it's just really funny (and sorta fascinating) that it was ever convincing.

I like the fighting you see in Star Trek: TOS, which apparently emerged from the westerns that were super-popular in the 60s. My favorite thing is a move where Kirk (or somebody else) has his hands in what's almost a praying position, and then karate chops an opponent in the back with this. This is evidently enough to subdue them.

I find it to be exceedingly goofy.

I dont know if this is a ND thing or not, but it doesnt make sense to me in supernatural why sam and dean keep not wanting to work with crowly and rowena in later seasons when its clear their interests are aligned and they all have a chemistry. Is it some sort of character flaw to be able to work together and respect an enemy to the point of a sort of friendship?

Witch killing bullets? How does that work? Everyone knows about silver bullets, and Underworld had vampire-killing bullets (using UV light). But witch-killing? Like, what are witches even vulnerable to?

Why does water harm the witch, anyway? Everyone complained about Signs, but not that. I'm thinking maybe it's because magic in Oz is elemental and her magic is closely tied to fire.
