Sometimes the answer is in the stars...

Here is your respite place of knowledges. Take what you want, leave what you can. Tarot decks are are easier to come by than you think. Ideally, someone gives you a tarot deck, but if you can buy them pretty much anywhere. There are many resources for learning card meanings, with Labyrinthos being a fan favorite. They also have an extremely helpful app. There are some basic tenets to tarot reading but they all can be summed up by first and foremost one: do not use tarot for evil.

This thread is not necessarily for requesting/offering readings, but for learning tarot, asking questions about tarot, and general tarot discussion. That being said if a reading comes up naturally, the more the merrier!

It doesn't make you a bad Christian at all! There's really nothing in the bible that contradicts the philosophy behind tarot.

*pokes speaking of the history of tarot*

they were originally used as a sort of game card deck before being turned to "divine" purposes in the form of readings. In essence the tarot reading can say things of your past, present, and future. You may ask a question of how something will turn out and get a card reading based upon such. Tarot is believe to help people find spiritual growth and personal guidance.

Merced can also answer. XD

It is the raging former catholicism eating away at my soul *jk* in seriousness in Catholicism, any sort of divination outside of the church and the Bible itself are deemed to be sinful as it suggests objects can have the power of God, any thing attempting to predict the future is considered sinful in Catholicism. So horoscopes, astrology, tarot, etc. are all deemed sinful practices in Catholic faith.

but I'm not a catholic now teehee

I see Tarot, like other divination methods (e.g. runes) as a method of tapping into the subconscious, not unlike Rohrshach inkblots. The archetypes are general enough (or the rune meanings) that each one of us will apply our own interpretation, helping us see things and make connections that may not readily occur to our conscious mind trying to process a problem or question more directly.

Nor I. But the Catholic Church really opposes anything trying to predict the future? Even weather forecasts? Science in general aims to understand why things happen in order to be able to predict future events. In fact, if a postulate cannot be used for accurate predictions, it is discarded or modified. No wonder Galileo had such trouble with the church.

Never heard something of weather reports but they dislike associating god-like capabilities to mystical things. As with tarot. Or say, you believe these herbs or rocks will bring peace.

YES THE WORD FINALLY CAME BACK TO ME

SUPERSTITION.

THEY BELIEVE IT TO BE SUPERSTITIOUS AND SUPERSTITION IS BAD. according to them.

I have no patience with supersitition, either, though for different reasons. Predictive ability can be quite useful, however, if done correctly.

Honestly? I do it for fun and to get insight on myself. To tie it back to typology, my introverted functions are pretty weak across the board. I can do things objectively all day but when the time comes for me to look within, it's all fart noises. I think tarot would be a great way of tapping into Ni and Fi specifically. (Si and Ti in a way too, but not so much so.)

I think general uses of tarot can be broad. Some use it for divination, some use it to find peace with situations. Everyone I know uses it for advice as well.

I'm so jealous that you guys have found tarot decks that you vibe with. I'm trying to find the one but no luck. At best, I vibe most with Labyrithos' Golden Thread Tarot but I feel like that doesn't say much in terms of individuality. I've also tried commissioning art to make my own tarot deck but that would literally cost thousands.

Aesthetically speaking, maybe you could check out one of these decks. I love both of them as well, and I feel like either could complement the Golden Thread Tarot really well if you wanted more diverse energies to work with.

I'm fascinated by Tarot iconography, which I guess means I should probably buy a deck. There are so many, it's hard to choose, though.

Is it possible to perform readings on myself? (I'm open to the "psychological" interpretation of Tarot.... the cards tap into our subconscious and so we can get meaning and insight from that).

I think you can have more than one deck. From what I understand, gifting a deck is a good thing, so look for someone to give a deck to you, and if you find better you can give your old one away.

From what I understand, the 'rules' differ from person to person. Some say you absolutely mustn't for various reasons (bias, it just won't spiritually work, fear of hubris, etc), some are more flexible. Those who don't read for themselves get other people to.
