Lead lawyer is J. Erik Connolly, who, in 2017, obtained one of the largest media defamation settlements in history—reportedly $177 million—for a beef producer who sued Disney-owned ABC News (DIS) for disparaging one of its products as “pink slime.”

HA! 177 million for calling it "pink slime." My man, you are definitely the perfect lawyer to represent Smartmatic to go after FOX, et al.

Representative John Kavanagh, a Republican legislator who chairs Arizona’s Government and Elections Committee:

“There’s a fundamental difference between Democrats and Republicans,” he told CNN. “Democrats value as many people as possible voting, and they’re willing to risk fraud. Republicans are more concerned about fraud, so we don’t mind putting security measures in that won’t let everybody vote — but everybody shouldn’t be voting … Not everybody wants to vote, and if somebody is uninterested in voting, that probably means that they’re totally uninformed on the issues. Quantity is important, but we have to look at the quality of votes, as well.”

I'm not a Democrat you old toad. There are plenty of people who are stupid—you included— but that doesn't mean you lose your right to vote.

The quality of votes. He should just say what he means by that - which is white votes.

This tweet will never not be funny. He did push the ultimate cancel culture when he tried to cancel an entire church that had a nation-state attached, amirite?

The cancel culture that really bothers me is not political but the sort of culture that got Jericho, Farscape, Futurama and shows like that all cancelled, for who knows what reason, they are great shows. And garbage like Paradise PD run and run. Apparently.

Well, that's probably not the kind of Cancel Culture we would be discussing in the Random Politics Thread, but hey...

Sounds like poor network decisions, honestly -- and I agree, Futurama was a great show and I've heard good stuff about Jericho.

I could list all the things they've attempted to cancel in just my lifetime, but it's like, whatever.

The right/conservatives/GOP can't argue policy and platform. They don't have any policy, they obstruct, they don't govern and have absolutely no ideas of their own. So all they have left is the culture war they want to win so badly but never will. "Cancel culture" is just the newest thing they've attached their parasitic tentacles to but, as a GenXer, I lol at this.

Again, yeah ceecee, what you said, THAT. wtf. There is so little I give a shit about canceling, but that is one of those few.

That crowd has such a lack of pulsebeat on zeitgeist or art.
Their idea of winning the culture war is "God's Not Dead 5".

Why are you people trying to drag Garland into your political shit right out of the gate? He's an AG, not your political toy. That's what we had for 4 years and now you want to go that route, too? Fuck Brett Kavanaugh. Oh, and fuck you. I've had enough of the juvenile shit.

I watch these old eighties futuristic sci fi shows for the LOLs and they predict all kinds of things but they never predict mobile phones or communications tech.

Even the shows that I think did feature some pretty futuristic stuff like the mobile the guy had in Third Wave which was a gift from aliens but pretty much just does face time and all like an android phone, those were TV shows and not movies.

I wonder about this kind of thing because if there's not much in the way of imagination of possible innovations its not going to happen and I think the rate of new thinking or novel thinking in politics is even slower than other respects.

what about the old school communicators in Star Trek? They were basically little flip phones, and IIRC mobile phone companies were even inspired by that look when they started designing the smaller flip phones.

Not to mention the ship computers with voice recognition in various Star Trek shows sort of predicted stuff like the amazon alexa, how people are integrating that kind of tech into their homes to have "smart homes" with voice activated lights, locks, etc

Those old Trek series got a lot right, from handheld communication devices to desktop PCs and so on. They certainly got a lot more correct than they got wrong.

But in general I think most of the really imaginative stuff in sci-fi is more in novels than in tv shows and films

why are people still acting like mr potato head was "cancelled"? it was just a branding change. people need to take a minute and verify this sort of stuff before they overreact to headlines they see on facebook without bothering to actually click and read the entire news stories.

Same reason they can't grasp Dr. Seuss's estate requested the books be pulled due to racist imagery and the publisher complied. Not "the left" not cancel anything not woke whatever the fuck the reactionaries say.
