he just sits there and agrees with whoever he is speaking to. Often contradicting what he said in prior episodes. even conservatives make fun of him for this.

I'm a nominal member of the chapter at my school; I wish I had more time to go out to their events lol.

Tactical Turtleneck Same here. I'm in line with about 75-80% of their platform. I feel like it's more social democrat (which I identify more with) than democratic socialist, but that's still progress for America lol.

To think there was a time in life where I thought he was a genuine, intellectually honest person. I just asked myself, "Wait, he doesn't have as many left-leaning people on..." and saw his coincidental descent into madness on Twitter. That was enough for me lmao

Its definitely moderate by the standards of the actual Labour Party in the UK, which could not be said to be democratic socialist, not since the internal coup removed Corbyn.

In some sense I think labels like capitalist and socialist are obsolete, on the other hand there never was an official capitalist party and movement, so I never thought there should be an official socialist one either.

I agree; any form of markets is considered "capitalism", while any form of government is considered "socialism". It's infuriatingly simplistic, considering many capitalists didn't hesitate to use the instruments of government to achieve their objectives, while many socialists are ardent anti-statists (or a more moderate example, Yugoslavia under Tito had "market socialism").

Its worse than that, largely any sort of economy, sometimes modern technics even, or industrialism, is considered capitalism (although even merchantilism or commerce or even exchange per se is considered capitalism by some) and anything at all disliked by American capitalism is "socialism". Like all the bizarre talk about cultural marxism, which is some kind of oxymoron, since Marx thought culture was nothing more than the shadows cast by business practices or ownership of the means of production anyway.

Anyway, beyond definitions I think that there's changes afoot, for some time, which have eroded much more basic functioning than makes for any sort of social prerequisites let alone either capitalism or socialism.

I’m tired & not really following along at this point, but my roommate’s got this on TV. I can’t even fully hear it.

I can’t stop laughing at everyone’s faces. In particular that guy in the gingham on the lower right. Everytime someone else speaks, he looks like a kid who dropped his ice cream cone.

How long before Trump starts screaming about Lightfoot's decision:

Starting Friday October 23 at 6:00 a.m., all non-essential businesses will be closed to the public from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. And all liquor sales will stop after 9:00 p.m. Essential businesses like grocery stores, pharmacies and restaurants with take-out delivery services are exempt. Lightfoot said she would not hesitate to roll the city back into Phase 3 or a stay-on-place if things get worse.

“We are taking these measures to avoid potential catastrophic impacts. The rapid rise in cases that we’re experiencing here in Chicago is consistent with what we’re seeing, not only across the state, but across the nation, and in many other countries around the world,” Lightfoot said. “COVID-19 thrives in places and in circumstances where people let their guard down. And as the weather cools and people move in indoors, the risk of the spread rises exponentially. That’s why we have been preaching about limiting the size of gatherings, about wearing a mask everywhere, you can, and particularly outside.

Too bad she's dragging her feet on police reform. Sorry, had to rant about that.
