For me personally I like working with pencils both sketch and colored due to the precision like I find I can get more finely blended shades than with paint. I do like working with acrylics as well as they tend to be bold colorwise. To look at I really dig paints in general but oil paintings most of all appeal to me and I'm also a big fan of colored pencils.

I paint in oils, and most of my favorite painters do as well. (Looking at you, Bob Ross)

Honestly I prefer digital because it has more potential. It uses technology, which is always evolving.

None. Writing is my only true way of expressing myself and it’s usually a very private process for me so I guess I don’t often express the deepest parts of myself to others. It’s more for my own enjoyment than anything else.

Anyway none of these for me. Give me a canvas and you’ll get a mess. Give me clay and you’ll get a mush of earth. Ask me to sketch and a stick man is my offering to you.

As for viewing pleasure, charcoal artwork is beautiful imo. It’s very raw and sometimes I find black and white brings focus to a subject where the full color spectrum can distract from the essence of an image. It’s also true for photography. I’m a big fan of concept art for movies, video games etc as well. There’s a certain beauty in something being in it’s raw unrefined form that I find appealing. Nothing as of yet is locked in and the flow of possibilities is very much alive in the piece.

It really depends on the objective that determines the medium for me. Otherwise, creative expression is all the same to me, just different formats. Each do offer unique opportunities over others so I might prefer one medium, then another for something else. I voted color pencil as one of my more common methods, but only because it's closest to pen and trace. I love to use my Prismacolor pens on multiple sheets of trace paper, then you can overlay the various sheets to get layers and alter the colors as they lay on top one another. I like to use this method when I want to quickly get some concepts down, in a spatial, abstract way.

Digital media is a lot of fun, combo of Photoshop/Illustrator, and some 3D modeling program like Rhino or 3D Max to get my architectural visions to come to life for others to understand.

Painting and music tend to be my go-to mediums for getting in touch with my emotions and self exploration.

Ya, it depends.

Relative to painting, acrylics do it for me since there's texture in the end result. That said, I avoid painting because of the mess but have plans to allocate an art room with a cement floor, once we move to a rural area. This way, I don't need to worry about messing up the floor.

At present, I use pencil including pencil crayons, conte and pastel crayons and charcoal since the mess can be limited to a table. In future, I have plans to try mixed medium to maximize texture.

Oil paints. Acrylics for clothing.

I'm very interested in expanding my current choice of medium to mixed-media in the near future however. Perhaps incorporating dyed textiles and little trinkets of randomness for extra dimension and layers. My use of one medium is currently becoming stale and monotonous to what I'd like to achieve. So experimentation is something I'm planning on pursuing, but that dreaded fear of the unknown is something I'd have to conquer in order to satisfy my idealistic pursuits.

On top of that, visual and video collages are fun to make as well. I'd like to make more of those too, but the video ones take too long to perfect and I don't have much time for that now.

But in the general sense, I love art in all its various forms. When you work with art on a constant basis, it pretty much becomes your entire life. So yes, I am an "art whore" or "art hoe" or whatever the terms are that people use these days.

Honestly I can't choose a singular one. Because there are too many examples and too many possibilities of fantastic creations in all mediums, including art installations. Really for me it's about what moves me or inspires me, or something that just really connects on a deeper level. I will say though that the majority of what is dubbed 'modern art' does not appeal. Also large garish or vulgar art is offensive to my eyes and soul.

I suppose I like some romantic styles, beautiful art, some finely detailed, exploratory art and also those with a touch of mystery... hidden messages, interpret that as you will. I often find that NP's are interested in things like fractals (who said this... maybe senza?) which can be colourfully vivid but more subtle and leading whereas I noted that many SP's are into hard hitting raw vivid imagery.

To work with? Photography, writing, pencil, clay/craft. I've been wanting to learn to paint, and would like to take an in-person class, but there aren't many in my area.

To look at/experience? Do I have to choose? :wubbie:

I'm a huge texture whore, so my favorite art will deliver a sense of that. I cannot pick just one form, but I mostly create via sketching and photography, and I've worked with acrylic and oil pastels. I'd love to try oil paint, and also pyrography (the art of burning wood). I'd also really like to learn graphic design so that I can further play with photography and mixed media. Also, my favorite subject is nudes.

Photography's big for me too, especially relative to making something mundane look interesting through camera angles, lighting and manipulation.

I only work with watercolor; it's not that I'm opposed per se to other mediums, as I think some of my ideas would actually work better with other mediums / I'd have an easier time of it, but at this point it's really just a lot of investment already in watercolor, both practice and materials, and it would be a huge money and time sink to begin using another medium - something I'm just not positioned to do atm.

Oh, duh, I am also very into nature and landscape photography.

But in terms of other people's art I can really enjoy any medium.

lithography and photography

I especially enjoy new deal era art in both categories... something about that aesthetic is immensely appealing to me
